Smokey is an animate lump of coal non-player character that occasionally appears in the Christmas Village while creating snowballs at the pile of snow, next to the stove, west of Santa Claus. He is instanced; only the player for which he appears can see or interact with him.

When he appears, a progress bar above him shows how cool he is. The bar starts fully red. Pelting him with an equipped snowball (craftable at the nearby pile of snow) will cool him down, turning a third of the bar green. Pelting him with three snowballs before 18 seconds have elapsed after his appearance will fully cool him and award the player with 75 Christmas spirit before he returns to the stove. Should the player fail in this, he returns to the stove without awarding Christmas spirit.

On average, he appears approximately once in three minutes and can be cooled down in about 3.6 seconds.
