The Spirit Realm is a different plane, parallel to the Wilderness. It is accessible during and after completing the Spirit of Summer quest. It can be entered by standing on a spiritual portal, and selecting operate while wearing Jennica's ring. After the Summer's End quest, the weak portals will become available to travel through.

Spiritual portals[edit | edit source]

Completion of Spirit of Summer will give access to the 3 spiritual portals, and completion of Summer's End will give access to an additional 5 weak portals. All are accessed via Jennica's ring. Note that the portal for Summer's Farm, while able to be used during the first quest, is not accessible outside of questing until both have been completed.

There are also five weak portals that can be activated using the upgraded version of Jennica's ring received after completing Summer's End:

  • Farm reward - Weak but visible; at eastern ruins in level 28 Wilderness
    • Coordinates: 17° 58' N, 24° 45' E
    • Gives 7,500 Farming experience to those with 46+ Farming.
    • This is the same portal that leads to the Spirit Beast during the quest.
  • Fortress reward - Very weak and invisible; in the very centre of the Dark Warriors' Fortress in level 14 Wilderness.
    • Coordinates: 14° 43' N, 18° 22' E
    • Gives 15,000 Defence experience to those with 80+ Defence.
    • If full black armour is worn (helm, body, legs, and a weapon in each hand), the tormented wraith will become attackable.
  • Rogue reward - Very weak and invisible; near Rogues' Castle in level 53 Wilderness. The portal is located within the wall, but outside the castle. It is 2 steps east of 3 stacked boxes. Players should be extremely wary of the Chaos Elemental which roams that area.
    • Coordinates: 24° 18' N, 26° 33' E
    • Gives 15,000 Thieving experience to those with 60+ Thieving.
    • This portal allows players to lock the prison door in the Spirit Realm to unlock the doors in the real world and free the imprisoned rogue. When players talk to him, he advises them to meet him in Varrock, in the house behind the archery shop, where he will buy unenchanted jewellery for a modest price.
    • Three lootable chests which can be looted without a lockpick, as their default state is open in the Spirit Realm (opposite their locked state in Gielinor)
  • Dragonkin reward - Weak but visible; in the castle ruins far east of the Demonic Ruins, in Level 47 Wilderness.
    • Coordinates: 22° 56' N, 29° 9' E
    • Gives 7,500 Smithing experience to those with 50+ Smithing
    • In the spirit realm at this point, there are images of the dragonkin icon on the walls.

Duality[edit | edit source]

Based on the quest, the Spirit Realm is known to be an exact opposite of the real realm in RuneScape (albeit limited to the Wilderness). For example, emptying a barrel of water in the real realm fills up the barrel in the Spirit Realm, and repairing a wardrobe in the real realm destroys the wardrobe in the Spirit Realm. ScapeRune is another opposite to RuneScape; however, it is separate from the Spirit Realm and has various locations of RuneScape beyond the Wilderness. 

Due to this fact, it is possible that when the player killed the Spirit Beast in the Spirit Realm, the player released the opposite into the real world, the Corporeal Beast.

The realm is not technically a part of the Wilderness, so players can teleport out of the Spirit Realm regardless of what the Wilderness level is in the real realm, unless affected by Teleport Block. In addition, when players enter the Spirit Realm, items on the ground in the real RuneScape realm are no longer accessible.

Non-player characters and monsters in the real realm cannot be seen in the Spirit Realm, therefore the portal can be used as an easy escape when hunted by PKers or monsters. However, you cannot enter the Spirit Realm when teleblocked or in combat.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Cursed magic logs become normal magic logs when the player leaves the spirit world.
  • With the Wilderness update of 1 February 2011, the experience the portals give has been increased. Players who already claimed experience may visit them again for the additional experience.
  • When in the Spirit Realm, you can teleport as if you were not in the Wilderness, and the wavy lines signalling the spirit world flash, then disappear.
  • Since the Wilderness graphical update of 13 December 2011, going up the stairs in the Dark Warriors' Fortress Spirit Realm causes players to be in level 108/109 Wilderness.
  • When entering the castle ruins portal, you used to be able to see the Wilderness level change for a moment. However, with the addition of the Dragonkin Laboratory, the small peninsula on which it resides is a non-pvp area partitioned from the Wilderness, in a similar manner to the Daemonheim Peninsula.
