Netflix fans have been left divided after a 'gripping' new film fronted by Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick has hit the streaming platform.
DarkGame was released on 21 December, and has since ranked as fifth in Netflix's Top Ten.
But despite proving a hit for many thriller and horror fans, viewers have been left scratching their heads of the movie's 'terrible script' and 'awful acting' - despite starring a seasoned actor best known for his role in teen drama, Gossip Girl.
The film, directed by Howard Ford, stars Ed Westwick, who played Chuck Bass in the cult series and later went on to play Vincent Swan in the BBC sitcom White Gold.
This time, he returns as Detective Ben Jacobs in a race against time to save the captives of a macabre game show aired exclusively on the dark web.
The twisted game show forces kidnapped players into a brutal survival competition that's broadcast on the dark web - content on the internet that is intentionally hidden and requires special software - as audiences place bets on their fates.
Since its release, DarkGame has been given a measly 31 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes - but some viewers who enjoyed the film say otherwise.
Taking to X, one wrote: 'Not gonna lie this had me on the edge of my seat - about time there something as gripping as jigsaw and the Morgan Freeman esc type movies #darkgame.'

Another fan commented: 'Just watched #darkgame and now I need a sequel.'
A third agreed, writing: 'This was probably the most stressful film I’ve chosen to watch on Christmas. Really good! I enjoy a horror and a thriller especially with a decent detective. #DarkGame #Netflix.'
Meanwhile, others were left less than impressed by the movie's plot, as one viewer wrote: '8 mins into #darkgame and it’s not giving. The acting is so bad as well, which is a shame considering Ed Westwick is in this.'
A third critic wrote: 'Even through it’s terrible script & awful acting, I was rooting for #DarkGame as a low budget thriller with an unknown cast, something we need more of right now.
