So, anytime I see an appealing cookbook offered up for review, I jump on it. Country star Trisha Yearwood's latest cookbook held that particular appeal. It is sub-titled "Recipes for Everyday Life," so I was hoping for some recipes that I could incorporate into my family's meals. I was not disappointed! The first recipe that I tried was the Hot Chicken Chili. I loved the suggested topping of chopped bread & butter pickles, as it made the flavors pop.
The recipes in this book are all simply written and are accompanied by color photos. As you would expect, many of the recipes in this book are for comfort food or have a southern twist. I have many more bookmarked to try out.

I know how much a cookbook excites me by how many little slips of paper I add to it as bookmarks. This book has so many recipes that I want to try. I have already made two and they both got rave reviews. The Chicken Paillard with Caper Butter sauce was easy to make and so flavorful. I also made the Slow Cooker Coq Au Vin which was also easy and had the most delicious broth. I love finding good slow cooker recipes as it makes my life as a working mom that much easier. I can't wait to try more recipes.
I highly recommend this cookbook!

Nigella has released Cook, Eat, Repeat as a book and has a new TV show of the same name. Nigella to me, evokes an image of well-put-together, laid-back, elegance. Like "why yes, I did work for hours in the kitchen to make this seemingly simple food. Cheers!" But, that's just my way of thinking. Her cookbooks are some of my favorites to browse through on cold, rainy days (much like today!), imaging what I will cook when I can have people other than my family in my house (Thanks, COVID!).
This cookbook is equal parts prose and recipes. There are a lot of essays and writings about the various topics and recipes. Each recipe has a color picture to go with it. I've bookmarked a few to try out in the coming weeks...like a marzipan cake, a spiced rice, and some pickled veggies. This book is a unique collection. There is a whole chapter on rhubarb and another on tinned anchovies. The recipes all have an indulgent, night-in-at-home feeling to them. ...more

So far, I have made the breakfast nachos, broccoli au gratin, white chicken chili, beef stroganoff, cannoli trifle and chocolate croissant bread pudding. My husband has already requested that I make the bread pudding again "every year on his birthday". :)

I haven't been to his restaurant but this book really made me want to go on our next trip to the city. The recipes featured lots of fresh ingredients with interesting combination of rustic and modern preparations.
We tried several recipes including the Brussel Sprouts with Hazelnuts, Corn & Tomato gnocchi, and zucchini caviar toast. All were big hits! See my instagram post about these recipes here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CHNofQLgU...
I still have several more recipes bookmarked to try out in the future.

I loved all of the appealing photos and the anecdotes and introductory text. Being stuck at home with the whole COVID lockdown, allowed me plenty of time to browse cookbooks and try out recipes. One we tried from this one was a twist on nachos but made with fingerling potatoes instead of chips. SOOOOO Good.

First off, we are not vegans in this house but that doesn't mean that we don't eat veggie-centric meals multiple times a week. I immediately spotted a number of recipes in this book that I wanted to cook.
The cookbook was easy to follow and had lots of great color photos. I recommend this book to anyone looking to add more veggie recipes to their life. ...more

I will gladly take the suggested recommendations on a menu if I am looking to enjoy wine with my meal. So, this book held some appeal to me. This was a REALLY FUN book! Vanessa Price suggests wine pairings for all the less-than-haute-cuisine that we all partake of in real life. Everything from fast food to candy and snack cakes. I loved it! Now, who wants to come over for some wine and Skittles?

The author breaks down the concept of flavor into several different elements (such as emotion and aroma) which they then use to make the flavor equation. There are also a number of recipes in the book meant to highlight the different types of flavor such as bitter. I recommend this to anyone who loves science and food.

I love browsing through cookbooks and bookmarking recipes that I want to try. And occasionally, I even get around to trying them. I love cookbooks with easy to follow recipes and great photography.
Big Love Cooking by Joey Campanaro definitely fits the bill. This cook book contains 75 recipes inspired by the cuisine at his popular NYC restaurant Little Owl. There are many Italian recipes in this book for anything from brunch fare to soup and salad, veggies, main courses and desserts. I probably bookmarked around 20 recipes on my first go through the book and added a few ingredients to my online shopping cart so I can try out some of them. Up first we will try the snickerdoodles with salted caramel and the halibut with pesto.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for approachable yet elevated Italian fare inspiration.

It's a pandemic! And we have a bunch of bananas! What to do? Find banana recipes.
This little cookbook is loaded with ONLY banana recipes. Perfect for my scenario! There's everything from smoothies, to cakes, pies, cookies...and more. There are a lot of vegan and gluten free recipes in this book. We are neither a vegan or a gluten free household so we didn't have a few of the ingredients on hand for some of the recipes. (thanks, pandemic!) Each recipe is accompanied by a color photo and the recipes are clearly written and easy to follow. I've bookmarked several recipes to try out with my kids, who luckily are banana-fans.

The author clearly loves her mom and has a great relationship with her and lots of food-related memories. The book is a sort of ode to her mom & the food she (the author) grew up with as an Indian-American.
This book doesn't have many of the staples that you will find on Indian restaurant menus here in the states. There is no chicken tikka masala or tandoori chicken to be found in this cookbook! Instead it has (as the title states) Indian-ish recipes. While the recipes for the most part are at their core Indian (in flavor profile, and ingredients) you will find some unexpected twists...like goat cheese. Or ramen. I've bookmarked a few recipes to try. I will update my review once I've given them a go. ...more

Abkin was born in South Korea but moved to America as a child when she was adopted by a Jewish-American dad & a Mexican mom. Food has always played an important role in her life. The book is full of recipes with Asian-influenced flavors. Most of the recipes have a sauce/dressing followed by a dish that uses that sauce. I've already tried a couple of recipes and loved them. We had the Orange, Mango, Avocado Salad with Jalapeno Lime dressing and the East West Rice Bowls (with a fantastic plum sauce). These recipes will definitely make into my dinner rotation. They both came together pretty quickly and had clean, bright flavors. I have a few other recipes bookmarked and plan to try them out soon.
This book is due to be released next month and I urge my food-loving friends to check it out.
I also plan to take a road trip out to Easthampton at some point to dine at Coco & the Cellar Bar.
