Quote: “Mom, this is just the sort of intolerance that forced his kind into hiding for thousands of years!” Katie said, raising her voice. “If people could see past the propaganda…” “He drinks blood! You know that red stuff that keeps you alive? That you only have about five liters of in your body?” “OK, fine. He drinks blood.”-
Quote: So he jammed his fangs into his own wrist and opened up a vein. Thick, almost-black blood oozed out like syrup. He held his arm over her mouth and let some of it ooze onto her lips and tongue. She gagged and choked, swallowing a little. Then she died.-
This is the first novella in a series of six fantasy novellas.
Katie McGuire just died, and that’s where her story begins. Because in a world where Vampires have civil rights, the last thing they can allow is for mortals to think that people are being turned against their will. So in order to maintain the fragile peace, a 600-year-old Vampire must bring Katie into the fold - or silence her forever.
She can't run, and she can't hide, not with midterms, a pregnant best friend, and a nerdy new love interest all needing her attention. Katie must learn to navigate the horrors of high school while trying to figure out what to do with the rest of her afterlife.

Sookie Stackhouse, a human telepath, has had some touch adventures! In the last book, she was beaten up, staked, and on and on.4 stars- English Ebook
Sookie Stackhouse, a human telepath, has had some touch adventures! In the last book, she was beaten up, staked, and on and on. Her New Year's Resolution was to avoid this in the future. Not long after that adventure ended, though, new problems crop up. Eric, the head vampire for the region, shows up at her door with no memories. Normally ferocious, he is now much different. She is supposed to keep him out of harm's way. As it turned out, some wicked witches put a spell on him, wanting to stake a claim (bad pun) in his territory.
After that, interlocking stories develop. How did Eric come to this sad state? What can be done about that? What has happened to Sookie's brother Jason, who has disappeared? Many supernatural characters are key players in this book.
Sookie tries to balance her concern for her brother, her employment as a server at a bar, her ability to hear people's thoughts (most unpleasant to her--although a valuable tool at other times), her trying to carry out her job as "protector" of Eric, her poor financial standing. . . . Altogether, she has much to juggle.
Plots are normally not too credible; things fairly farfetched seem to happen. But, in the end, this is another fine addition to the Sookie Stackhouse series. Not to be missed is a final battle over Eric, when an alliance of Wiccas, shapeshifters, were--, and vampires takes on the evil witch's alliance. And Sookie takes the point! An intriguing battle. . . ....more

Another Southern Vampire mystery that hit the spot beautifully, as I hoped. Although it started a little slowly, by the end it was racing along nicely and I ended up staying up and finishing it in the early hours of the morning because I couldn't wait another day!
It being the third book in the series, there isn't too much I can say without giving things away that I shouldn't... Bill leaves on a secret 'mission' for the vampire queen of Louisiana and then goes missing, only for Eric and Pam to land a hefty blow on Sookie when they tell her what he's really been up to. Despite this she heads straight off to Jackson, Mississippi, with the dashing werewolf Alcide on hand to help her infiltrate the local Supe scene, to find out what's happened. Throw in a sprinkling of all the usual drama: damsels in distress, handsome heroes, supernatural intrigue and violent clashes with the bad guys, along with a dose of Sookie's wry humour and the irrepressible Eric's determination to seduce her one way or another, and you've got another cracking read. Looking forward to the next one....more
Living Dead in Dallas, like Dead until Dark is a fast paced story with an action packed plot. New supern4,5 stars- English Ebook and Dutch paperback
Living Dead in Dallas, like Dead until Dark is a fast paced story with an action packed plot. New supernatural creatures and elements are introduced in this book, many of them much scarier than vampires. However, like the first book, what makes this story special is its characters who are each unique and well written. Even some of the bad guys have you rooting for them at one point or another.
As with the first book I love Sookie’s personality. She’s quirky and a little strange, but her oddities are endearing. Bill continues to have his secrets, but his relationship with Sookie grows in this book and despite the fact that he keeps things from her I enjoy seeing them together.
As for Sam however, I find I like him less and less as this series continues. He’s constantly pushing himself on Sookie, and it feels like he doesn’t respect her boundaries at all. However, there were some interesting developments in his storyline in this book that relate to his love life and I think it will be fun to see how that develops. The supernatural world Sookie was introduced to in the first book in this series is growing for everyone in Sookie's life, particularly Sam.
Eric continues to make his way deeper into Sookie’s life as well, but I don’t find his methods as disrespectful as Sam’s. He and Sookie have developed an interesting friendship, and I do enjoy watching them interact. However, sometimes I think Sookie lets him get closer to her than she should knowing that he has feelings for her. At a few different points in this book both she and Bill make you question just what exactly counts as cheating in their relationship.
Overall I enjoyed this book, and will probably continue with the series....more

Quote: " things, such as feelings.” He had not just implied her father was to blame for her mother’s death, had he? The man certainly had more tact than that.-
Quote: First he asked if maybe her father was sick, then he’d implied suicide. It was as if he was making this up as he went along. And the meeting, Kelia thought, forcing her face to be as blank as she could make it. How do you account for him asking to meet with me? -
I really enjoyed this book. It had a bit of everything and there was a big twist at the end that I didn’t see coming.
I also really liked that this wasn’t an instand love story. There was plenty of action and lovable characters.
The only downside is this book does end on a cliffhanger! Rrrrr...more
