I honestly went into it never having read the summary or any idea what it was about. To me, it started off as a potentially upbeat story but did a quick 180! Upbeat it was not. I do feel like there was some missing information, and the reasoning behind the actions of the ghost was a little silly. But still good and some great illustrations.

Entertaining and just creepy enough! Perfect for fans of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
Not quite 5 stars, but a fantastic read, especially for October. Spooky, but not scary. Real, modern, and heartfelt with a bit of magic thrown in. If you enjoy fierce female protagonists and/or gothic mysteries, you'll love going on this adventure with Hazel Sinnett. Chalk up another 5 stars for author Dana Schwartz!

I couldn't put it down, and I'm more excited than ever for the sequel! I loved the characters especially Hazel, the headstrong protagonist. She's determined to be a physician even though men dismiss her as a silly girl with big dreams. I loved the 19th century Gothic tale vibe...from viscounts in castles to the seedy underbelly of Edinburgh, and of course, the Anatomist's Society. The whole thing reminded me of The Alienist tv series, so if you don't mind a little gore, mystery, and adventure with a shot of love, this book is for you!

I read this book as a part of a reading challenge and am so glad that I did! Gothic is normally not a genre I read a lot but I enjoyed the author's writing style so much that I was drawn into the story. It was so beautiful! Not only that, but the main character was an awesome strong-willed woman who I loved and now want to be. The story did a good job of slowly building up to the climax of the story and left the reader guessing how it would all end. I will definitely read more books by this author. *TRIGGER WARNING-sexual violence*
