Rebecca Hahn has once again delivered an amazing book. I fell in love with Hahn’s writing when I read her other book A Creature of Moonlight. Again her writing is so beautiful, mystical, lyrical, Hahn is just a master at words and painting a picture so distinct and unique. This story is short but very deep which I loved. Plus I am just a sucker for mythology of just about any kind. I will ALWAYS read a book with mythology all wrapped in it.
Here she has spun a very unique story of the Fates. Where they are sisters yet they are not. They are bound to each other. The three Fates are three very different women who never interact with mortals. They do what they are known for: the spinning and cutting of threads to the human life. You’ve got Xinot who is the “elderly sister” or the oldest one, she is has a gift for discernment. Then we’ve got Serena who is “middle-aged” with the more mothering nature. Then we have Chloe-the youngest who is so beautiful that men want her.
I really liked that this author humanized them. Instead of having the Fates old, disgusting, and creepy. We have very gentle, strong, real characters that are relatable.
This story is told in the voice of Chloe-the youngest. It’s a story of a girl named Aglaia washes up in the hands of the fate sisters; and whose life has been utterly destroyed.
Aglaia’s village was destroyed by soldiers who murdered and burned her village, yet left her alive-on purpose. She is filled with so much pain that one of the sisters tries to ease her memories by putting a spell on her. However Aglaia has a dark future that the Fates are powerless to stop but become involved.
Overall I loved this book it was amazing just like her first and I would recommend it to anyone!

Can I just go ahead and just rant and rave about how awesome this book was?! Well, it was amazing!Original Review at: www.awesomebooknuts.blogspot.com
Can I just go ahead and just rant and rave about how awesome this book was?! Well, it was amazing! I couldn't put it down! I was so impressed with how Sharon Cameron redid her own version of The Scarlet Pimpernel (which is a favorite of mine book and the 1982 Jane Seymoure movie adaptation). It was BRILLIANT, she took apart characters and created different/new characters with individual aspects that were in specific characters from the original telling.
I enjoyed how this story takes place MANY years from now where the world went through a technology-earth destruction that killed many people as they relied so much on technology that they didnt know how to survive without it. So technology has been outlawed and those that fund, use, or any way get access to technology are put to death. This society has decided to revert back to the 17th century style of living. With big hair, lots of makeup and ridiculous outfits.
We have Sophia who is our main character and she is a completely fun, I had a blast reading her adventures and character development. She's normal too, with all the feelings and emotions of any normal girl. Yet with a bit more adventure than the average girl she is just cool.
I completely enjoyed the brother/sister relationship between Sophia and her brother Tom. I loved reading their interactions and what they were willing to do for each other.
The action was crazy and had me biting my nails and sitting at the edge of my seat holding the book 2 inches from my face because I had to know what was going to happen next.
LeBlanc our villain was INSANE, literally INSANE, his logic, way of thinking the world should be and the sickness in his own mind was fascinating! I was creeped out and disgusted by him which made him completely fun to read about. Creepy creepy man....
I was floored with the twist and turns of this story. I kept second guessing myself with pointing the fingers to every character who I thought was the "bad guy" and when all was reveled...whoa. didn't see it coming.
I actually didn't mind the romance in this. There is a bit of a love triangle that wasn't bad to read at all! Plus the romance didn't overwhelm the story. It was a nice undertone which kept you interesting which I prefer!
Overall the author did a GREAT job of writing her own version of this story and I thought she was brilliant!

However I can honestly say this is NOTHING like Cinder and it is it's own unique retelling of Cinderella. Such a classic that retellings will never get old....

Wow. What a great conclusion to this story! Plus I love the fact that I don’t have to wait for another book! YAY!
This was a great book, maybe even better than the first. I love a story with balls, gorgeous gowns, manners, society etc. But what makes this even more is the touch of dystopian that was in Landry Park. A high society oppressing a lower society and a girl and boy from each side brought together. *sigh* makes an epic story.
With this book it’s no different. oh, I’ll admit it started of slow but then I couldn’t put it down!
I loved Madeline’s character development here, between the last book and this one she grew up A LOT. Meaning, she REALLY came out of herself. I loved that no matter who it was with she had her priorities straight and she was strong. Not strong physically like we see in some many of the other YA “strong female characters” but strong in the sense of character. She wanted what was right for her and those she loved plus those in both the Gentry and Rootless society.
I really enjoyed the conflict of the story. When Madeline’s old friends are murder she thinks it’s the Rootless behind the murders. Can you blame her? She is still young and makes mistakes, she is human but with some strength. She started something in book one and was determined to see it through with book two, and it was perfect. I loved the political intrigue.
I loved especially the relationship between Madeline and David because it wasn’t a toxic relationship, in many aspects it was a legit real relationship where you argue about real important stuff not just silly teen stuff but stuff that actually mattered and YET through it all they were still able to see and love each other. I love that! It’s realistic and tender and sweet.
Overall these 2 books are so worth reading, I love the whole element of the story. ...more

I have been waiting to get my hands on this book! Once I heard what it was about, I wanted it. It just sounded so good and so interesting! And it was just that awesome! I am so excited to see how Catherine Doyle plays this series out. I can't wait for book two! UGH these series!
I really liked this book because I felt it was a gritty, tense, thriller of a family of crime. The cast of characters is so dynamic and diverse it was incredible. I enjoyed the drama of this dark tale of grudges, revenge, and obsession. I enjoyed the lines that were crossed between good and bad, what's right and what's wrong and how far one will go to stay true to your family and their beliefs.
The main character Sophie was ok, she wasn't amazing to me but not annoying either. I found myself rolling my eyes at her a few times but hey she's not terrible.
I really enjoyed the five brothers of this family that moves in and their wide range of differences in personality and character. I felt the author did a GREAT job with keeping them completely separate during the whole book.
One thing I hated and ALMOST put the book down was the "insta-love" I am finding that I just can't stand that in a book, where is the mystery and the enjoyment of the tenseness between two characters? sheesh! well like I said, I ALMOST put it down but however there was one character that really intrigued me and I even tweeted to the author while reading it that I wanted more of him! She promised that there would be more and I was not disappointed. I cannot wait to see what the author does with him and Sophie. Yes, this does elude that there is a possible love triangle but it was super intriguing and not at all annoying! The thing is, no character knows of it yet except the reader and you don't suspect anything till way later in the book which was fabulous!
I completely loved this book and the shock factor was so shocking I was floored! I totally did NOT see THAT coming! it was insane! wow! still blown over it.
Overall if you're looking for a fun, intense mysterious contemporary I would so recommend this book! I loved it!

*sigh* Such a GREAT series so far! I'm loving it! I think I am going to have to add Sara B. Larson to my list of favorite authors! I was blown away by Defy which is the first book in this series and this second book is no different. If you're looking for an adventure with swoon worthy romance, this you should definitely check this serious out. LOVING IT! I did have issues with some things in this book which made me give it a 4 instead of a 5, but we'll get to that later.
I really liked that there wasn't a lot of missing time in the beginning of book 2, we start off basically where book 1 left us
Which leads us to the main character Alexa who has helped save her kingdom and her people from destruction by their own vicious and cruel king plus killed a deadly black sorcerer. Along with all this she helped place and good king, the son of cruel king, Damian. However, Alexa did not come out of this unscathed.
Just when things start to look like there will be peace again, an assassination attempt on the new king's life put their entire kingdom at risk against a kingdom that should be their ally. Which causes Alexa to put all her feelings for a certain someone aside to keep him and herself safe.
I really enjoyed the political intrigue, the twist and turns of the story, where you had to keep asking yourself, "is it them?" "could it really be them?" "but what about...?" it was great, and I loved every minute of it.
I loved how Damian is a GOOD guy! Too many guys in books these days are TERRIBLE and yet they have the "bad boy" so awful to the female and yet they fall in love and somehow that changes he "bad boy" and blah blah blah, now don't get me wrong I enjoy a good brooding but the GREAT thing about this story is that the main male role is actually a GOOD MAN! YAY! He was perfect of what male characters should be! Strong, kind, thoughtful, smart, good, etc.
One thing that kinda bothered me was the fact that there was SO MUCH romance that I felt it ALMSOT overtook the story. Is this a romance? Sure, but I don't like it to overtake the story TOO much and this almost did. But it was sweet, which is good.
I did NOT like the fact that Ry (Alexa best friend from Defy) turned into such a boring and a bit annoying character! He was supposed to be cool! Instead I find myself disliking him more and more as the story went on. He became whiny and a bit more like a 13 yr old who was slighted by some girl. GROW UP MAN! anyway, a bit disappointed in his character and lack of development. Overall the story keeps you on your toes and I read it in one sitting, it sucks you and keeps you wanting for more. I loved it, regardless of things that bothered me.

3.5 I had some high hopes for this book! I had some high hopes for this book! The cover is amazing, the book sounded amazing! And I honestly can say there isn't really anything WRONG with the book, it just....didn't do it for me like I'd hoped.
It started off really cool, and I really enjoyed that there were these families who really are in control of the world, and how this girl, Avery was hidden away all that and then all of a sudden her life is just thrown for a wild ride as she learns that she has family, she has power, she has money and everything someone could ever ask for. Anything she wants, all she has to do is snap her fingers and it's hers. I loved the gowns, the shopping, the sights, the historical aspects weaved into the story, I love the masquerade ball, I loved the chase and the action, plus the mystery.
Avery is very likable but there were times I was like, "come on! you aren't a baby! DO SOMETHING!" I dunno, I liked her but there were times I just rolled my eyes. She's naive, gullible, nice, sweet, and normal-almost.
There there are the two ridiculously hot guys vying for her attention. Hot guy #1 who is sweet, kind, fiercely loyal and takes his job seriously. I like Bishop but then he made me roll my eyes because of course he makes decisions based off of his feelings even though after YEARS of loyal to his family he is able to just chuck that out the window for his feelings. gah! where is the tension and hardship there?! boo. I really liked Bishop at first there was so much mystery behind him and loved that he was "all-about-the-job" and then his feelings got in the way and I didn't like him that much anymore. He became a bit boring to me.
Then there is hot guy #2 who is the "opposite" of Bishop-rebel, mysterious, brooding, "bad-boy" Stellan-who I was interested in way more almost immediately after I was introduced to his character. I was more interested in him because he has more mystery, and he broods. I like a guy who is charismatic and yet with his feelings he broods. I liked that he tried but Avery was so Avery that he was tied. I loved his and look forward to more of him.
Overall the idea of the story was great but there was-about half way through-a lot of eye rolling for me.

This was…not what I was expecting. I kept pushing this off because it had such HUGE hype and I wasn’t sure if it would live up to the expectations. Then a fellow blogger read and reviewed it and I just had to after that.
I was completely sucked in with this story. This story is brutal, like, seriously ruthless.
In this society, it runs on violence as acceptable with whippings, brutality, oppression, torture, rape and execution. A Society where children are ripped from their homes to become enforcers of the law, reigning with force and terror. They are broken and torn to become Masks where even their very faces are changed in order to serve the Empire. Where you are nothing but workers of the Empire and anyone who challenges that is tortured till you become nothing but these puppets. Stripped of all individuality. These people are ingrained with violence that what else is there to become but that which you are taught to become?
I found that to be fascinating and tragic especially as we see this actually happening in our own world, today.
This story you will see violence run throughout the storyline because it is about ONE man, ONE soldier who refuses to become what this society wants him to be. When his chance to finally leave is stripped from him he is faced with awful choices where he will battle what is needs to do with what he wants to know and then constantly question which is right. Elias is a GREAT character to read and follow as you ache for him and suffer alongside him as he tries to keep that one aspect of humanity which has kept him alive and sane. Yet he is also just a man, a man who refuses to stoop but also a man who makes mistakes. He is human in this story and I loved that especially with all that he has had to go through and conquer within himself in order to survive, yet he is real and faulty.
Laia is the other character who was not brought up the same way Elias has. She is not a soldier, she was raised with her brother by her grandparents with love and yet with an understanding of what they are suppose to be to the Empire. She lives in constant fear of possible rape and life taken from her. When her brother is taken and nothing left for her, her guilt-ridden self seeks out the one possible group that could help rescue her brother. The Resistance who betrayed and killed her parents. With that she is asked in return for their help to spy for them. She is to become a slave to the most ruthless, heartless and truly evil person in this book- The Commandant.
The Commandant is the one person you never want to cross, she will torture, maim, rip you apart just for being late. And she takes pleasure in it.
The attraction between Elias and Laia is slow and perfect. With their relationship they find moments of tenderness. Yet because of who they are there is also confusion and fear which help cause conflict in the relationship. But, with everything against them they are able to find themselves and a beautiful blossoming relationship that is sweet within this horror of a story.
Overall I LOVED this book, a little redundant with the whole constant mention of rape and possible raping that I kinda had to roll my eyes. Ok, we get it. Thank you. But the tragedy and world-building was so well done and fascinating that I couldn’t put this down.
Sexual Content: Heavy (mention throughout the book of rape, possible rape and the overall acceptance of it- also some light kissing) Violence: Heavy (scenes of torture, death, killing, maiming, whippings, execution) Language: I can’t remember I don’t think there was much Drugs/Alcohol: mild

It's a dystopian of sorts, where there are two types of people, Reds-which are the poor lower people with no powers and are meant to live in squalor and serve the other type of people Silvers-power people who are strong and rich and live on the backs of Reds.
This story we follow Mare a poor Red girl with no talents in order to find work to help feed her family. Her brothers have been shipped off to war and Mare knows that is what's next for her. When Mare accidentally tries to pick pocket a noble he lets her go instead of having her punished. Next thing Mare knows she has landed a job at the palace to where she serves the very people she hates. When an accident nearly kills her in front of all the Silver nobility including the King & Queen, Mare finds out that she is something else entirely, something special. Though she is a Red she also has powers. Due to this accident and a discovery of a Red having power, Mare finds herself in the middle of a very dangerous game, where anyone will betray anyone. During all this there is a group of people who are trying to set off a revolution, people who are tired of slaving for the Silver's to be treated less than animals. People who are fighting back. Mare finds herself in the mist of it all.

I enjoyed everyone's powers and the houses and name and colors that went with each power this was super fun to read about. There is a love triangle but it wasn't overwhelming it wasn't raging hormones, it was gentle soft and it kept you guessing. It was just the right amount of overall romance.
The book is harsh, romantic, action packed, fast paced, with twists and turns that it literally kept me up all night so I could finish it. LOVED it.

Victoria Scott is now on my must read author's list for YA. These two books have blown away ANY expectation I've had in regards to these books. Both times I was floored by her writing and how she navigated my feelings and emotions through this adventure. Honestly, I don't think there is anything about this book that I didn't like or that I would change. It was just, perfect.
We follow Tella and the rest of her contender friends from the first leg of the race in book one as they move forward with their plans and with winning the race. Regardless that all of them have someone to save they are willing to help each other out in surviving the race/game set for them by the Creators. The last leg of the race is for the contenders to cross water and snow and it's awesome, tragic, edge of your seat kind-of-crazy.
What I loved about this book is that it is so real, raw, heart wrenching, funny, heart warming, frightening and all of the other adjectives that make a book unforgettable.
I loved the romance in this, why? because it's not "insta-love" it's not a "bad" boy who treats a girl terribly, it's about 2 people with struggles in regards to everything happening around them and their desires, they can't deny their feelings for each other but it's a slow process and it's wonderful to read. It was just awesome.
We have brooding Guy continuing to be himself from book one and his character development is slow and subtle and perfect. Tella's character development was so fun to read, the author was able to develop her character without loosing sight of the original Tella character that we all connected with in book one.
With all the harshness of everything going on in this race of life or death the humor was a great relief and so cute it was wonderful.
There isn't too much I want to say in case I spoil it along with those who haven't had a chance to read book one. GO! READ IT!
Overall: This series is a must own. Because it's an adventure you won't be able to put down.

Again, another fabulously adorable book by the crazy cute author Kasie West.
This was just an overall fun, cute contemporary romance. I so enjoyed this book.
Gia is a bit of a nut but I enjoyed her character development as the story progresses she realizes what she had become and what she really wants to be. I was quite shocked when at the end it wasn’t a complete “happily ever after” which was a nice change from the norm and I appreciated that.
I really wanted to punch the main problem in this story because she was so annoying BUT without this girl, Gia wouldn’t have been able to see how shallow she really was and it was able to see great things around her. In the end you just felt bad for this character because she will never be happy.
I loved Hayden the fake-date he was just perfect and I enjoyed everything about him. He is a sweet guy with a fun personality. I’m tired of toxic guys in books and love how this guy just tries to be good.
I really enjoyed Hayden’s neurotic sister Bec. She’s snarky and tells it how it is. However Bec has her own problems as she tries desperately to find her out who she is and where she belongs. I was a bit disappointed that it seemed for someone so smart she felt she had to be a certain way in order to catch the eye of some guy. I wonder if Kasie will do a story on her she would be a great one to tell. *hint, hint*
There are a lot of teen social issues in this book without all the extra content that other social YA books have which makes this one even more special. It shows the side of real issues that teens have and face during their high school years and it also shows wonderful things that happen and can shape a person.
Overall this is a sweet, fun yet deep story which it completely enjoyable.

The story carries on with the engagement of Lady Kestrel to the Valoria's crown prince who you aren't sure if you want to like or just hate. The engagement itself is a problem yet to save those she loves Kestrel cannot tell anyone of the reason behind her engagement for fear of too many people's lives. Yes Kestrel thinks she can play a serious game between life or death for her and those she's trying to protect. When things spin out of control, Kestrel finds herself utterly alone. This book gets zoo utterly twisted you can't put it down!
I LOVE Kestrel's character even though you want to yell at her, you also cheer her own, ache with her, and hope she knows what she is doing. While surrounded by the gorgeous beauty of a palace and the balls and gowns, Kestrel has to constantly wear different facades in order to protect the ones she loves and herself, yet for how long is she able to uphold it all up and still try to save a people other deem not worth saving?
Arin...Arin, Arin. You....kinda bothered me in this book. You seemed a little whinny and I wanted to slap you across the head at times, yet I understand what you were trying to do. You just FEEL for Arin throughout this whole book. UGH! Why must life be so complicated!
New characters come into play and it's mesmerizing to see how they all play in the game that Marie Rutkoski sets up and how you aren't sure if some of them are good or bad.
This book is different from book one with all the political intrigue that has your mind spinning.
Overall I loved it and I couldn't put it down, it tugged on my heartstrings and is a must own.
