Each story iThis is a forbidden romance story. It's forbidden as although Emma is free to marry, Garrick has accepted an arranged political betrothal.
Each story in this series is a standalone book with a complete story for each couple per book but secondary characters appear from previous and future books so I would recommend reading the series in order. There is also a certain amount of politics going on in the background which builds in each book, allies, enemies etc.
They get to know each other but the issue is how can they have a future together with the repercussions so great if the Earl breaks his betrothal.
There is quite a bit of angst. A good story.
HEA. Small epilogue but the couple do appear in later books so the reader can see how their relationship progresses.

Also there is a main enemy storyline thread that runs through the series so although the couple in each book have a HEA that enemy storyline is not finished.
I did get a bit frustrated with the heroine. The situation is dangerous if she trusts him and agrees to be together so although I could understand her refusal then later her hesitancy I did wish she'd just say yes at a certain point. There are no intimate details of anyone other than the Hero and heroine. No details of the Hero's relationship history but we know the heroine was married to an older man, brood mare status, a few details from the heroines memory. No cheating. The Hero has been in love with the heroine for years and went they meet again he would love a second chance but is struggling to trust due to their history.

Graeme de Sowlis and Gillian Bowman. Graeme has had disappointment in marriage prospects and Gilliam is to be betrothed to an elderly man of financial benefit to her family. Graeme was sweet and loyal but reluctant to make himself vulnerable and Gillian has had a reserved upbrnging always behaving to please her father. I have marked it an arranged marriage because events lead them to get married as strangers.
It is a good story. There is a small amount of ex drama. At the start it looks as though Graeme will be intimate with another woman but there is little detail ( I don't want to spoil anything so I won't explain) and at that time he hasn't met Gillian. I don't like it when the Hero has met the heroine or is enamoured with her but then is involved with another woman but that doesn't happen here. It does reflect the attitude of men and women of the time, mistresses and dalliances but it is a small scene and not as it seems.
