This week in FLK-3

BABY MILLIE came for a visit and wowd us with

her growthand her cuteness !
In Language: We worked in smaller homogeneous groups again. Some of us
reviewed the reading buddies studied so far Lips the Fish, Stretchy the Snake,
Eagle Eye, Flip the Dolphin and Skippy the Frog. We learned and practiced Chunky
Monkey who reminds us to look for chunks that we know, ex. ing, ed, etc. Others
worked on learning the sounds of the letters and the letter names. The rest of us
worked on fine motor skills and blending sounds together to read new words.
As a whole group, we blended consonant vowel consonant words touching first our
head for the beginning sound, our waist for the middle sound and our feet for the
end sound. Ex. fig. We blended nonsense words too. We worked on popcorn words.
Miss Evans read us some more books from the Knuffle Bunny series.
Our Star Students this week were: Sammy, Sydney, Nathan and Madelyn. It was
old hat for all them to be leader for the day!!!
Gym: We played Octopus in the Gym and we had an absolute BLAST outside! Even
though it was silly chilly, we rode bikes, played on the bars and the climber, slid,
danced, hula hooped, and skipped. To free the children to choose their own activity
was wonderful!
In Religion: We celebrated the Spring nature around us. We tied Science to
religion this week as we watched and discussed a homemade Signs of Spring
video bulbs bloom, annuals are planted, everything is GREEN, flooding, grass
grows FAST!, birds call from high in the trees and some are brightly colored,
damage from frost is seen in sidewalks, we enjoy warmer temps ( SOME days!),
soccer season gets underway, etc.
Science: the tadpoles are still swimming! We discussed the function of
GILLS.and how the gills are switching to lungs.

We planted 60 tomato seeds. 30 are labeled T and 30 are labeled V. We dont know
anything other than some of the seeds in the study were in outer space for 22
months. We discussed what it was like in space.turns out we knew A LOT!!! Then
we discussed if space would have any effect on the seeds. 12 thought the seeds
would grow while 3 thought they would not grow. All in all, the outcomes were all
well thought out and quite impressive for 4-5-6- year olds!!!
In Fine Motor Development: Mrs. Hennessey continues to work with several
children in small groups to increase fine motor strength and dexterity as well as
gross motor strength. She is also working with small computer groups in the
Library. Some are keyboarding and others are practicing specific skills they need
more drill with.
In Art: This week Miss Evans had the children do pencil drawings of their
predictions of what the tomato plants (that came from seeds that had been in
outer space) would look like.
In Music, Drama and Dance: After being outside on Thursday for an extended
gym period, Miss Evans held an impromptu dance party to warm up! Catch the video
on the site!
In Mathematics: We revisited numbers 1 to 20 and practiced counting and
counting using ordinal numbers. Liam TOTALLY made our game of SOUND OFF
hilarious!

In Personal and Social Development: Miss Evans explicitly revisited the STOP
THINK and DO system. She also worked on empowering the children to be their
own problem solvers.
In Inquiry/Directed Play: Miss Evans is working with each individual Star Leader
to document an Inquiry investigation and to identify the childs thought processes
as they play. The results are stunning! We also continued with the Clean-up
Inspector and Deputy.
