Observation
Mini interview (general questions) related to planning and preparation for learning
Early in the morning OR ahead of time, you should arrange a time to discuss the following points
with your MST.
It is important that you ask these questions, as they will help you with your reflection later.
How do you plan? Do you plan weekly, daily, as part of a team or individually?
Weekly as a team and individually. Daily plans tend to change. We also do long-range
planning (monthly and yearly) but these are very flexible.
Do you follow a lesson plan exactly? Why or why not? No. You have to read and
adapt your plans to the students interest and mood, and timing.
What do you do when the lesson does not go according to the plan? Adapt to
what I know my students need. Sometimes I reteach the same lesson at a different time of
day, or in a different way.
Do you ever do anything you havent planned to do? All the time.
Do you plan to do the exact same thing with all the children in the classroom?
(Why/Why not??) No. Especially in the early years, the abilities of children are highly
varied. I will teach the same concepts or skills, but adapt my expectations and modify my
activities to meet the zone of proximal development for each child (the task is hard enough
to be challenging, but not so far outside of their individual abilities that it cannot be
completed)

Reflection
Answer the following questions thoroughly, not superficially. This means to think deeply and show
that you are really thinking about the importance of preparation and planning. Use some of the
information you learned form your MST in your reflection.
