Challenging Behaviour Quality Standard

The National Institute for Clinical Excellence Quality
Standards describe important areas for quality
improvement for a particular type of care.
They draw on guidelines that already exist to make a set
of ideas to help make services better.
This quality standard covers the care of children, young
people and adults with a learning disability and
behaviour that challenges.

Positive Behavioural Support and autism

awareness training fund
Skills for Care, Health Education England and Skills for
Health are working together to make changes to help
people who display behaviour which challenges to be
supported well in their local communities.

They are working together to give out funding to support

the Transforming Care programme.

The funding is available to social care and/or health care

employers of all types in England on the basis of skills
around the person i.e. by skilling up a team/group of
people who will be responsible for providing care and/or
support to an individual.

They expect that many of those trained will also be

using their new skills with other people in wider teams or
services. Each application can be for a maximum of
8,000. Employers can submit as many applications as
they like. The total fund available is 550,000.

UK Disability History Month 2015

The theme for UK Disability History Month 2015 is
Portrayal of Disability: Then and Now
Examining the way disability and disabled people have
been shown in past periods and now.
Social attitudes change and are represented in how
disabled people are shown or described, but strong
stereotypes rooted in past attitudes and cultures carry
on and are often reused, keeping strong negative
treatment of disabled people.

UKDHM supports a social model approach to disability

which moves away from seeing disability as an
individual deficit or problem to recognising that social
and attitude barriers disable the rich range of humans
with a wide range of impairments or differences.

For UKDHM 2015 you are invited to organise events,

lectures, projects, exhibitions, film shows and curriculum
studies that examine portrayal in the past.
If you let them know what you are doing they will
publicise it on their website.

Film your events and send these with pictures and

power points and they will put these up on their website.

To launch UK Disability History Month there will be a

day of discussion, followed by the launch event. There
will be film clips, speakers, panels.

This takes place on 19th November

At BFI Southbank in London.
