At the end of September we sent out the half year statements as well as an update on the work we have been doing so far. Leading Real Change A Workshop with John O Brien


8th November York 10.30 3.15 This year Inclusion North will be working with John O Brien to run a 1 day workshop on leading real change to achieve the personalisation agenda Personalisation is one of the most exciting opportunities for people and families to be in control and be supported to live their lives in a way that makes sense to them. This is an opportunity to work with John OBrien to think about leading change at cultural and organisational levels. Thinking about how we achieve more than just changes in the system. Who is the event for? This day is for people leading the changes to achieve Personalisation. This includes self advocate leaders, family leaders and paid worker leaders. This event is for a local team of leaders including: Local Personalisation Lead Family or Self Advocate Leader Support Provider Leader The day is for Inclusion North member areas and places are limited to three people per area. Save the Date for the Keep on Moving events in December


5th December York 14th December Newcastle Inclusion North will be holding two events in December to celebrate and share the fantastic work happening in our areas to make inclusion real for people with learning disabilities and their families. There will be two events. One will be in the North East and the other will be in the Yorkshire and Humber. There will be something for everyone to learn or talk about on the day whether you are interested in community leadership, commissioning or self-directed support and personalisation. These events will help us share how to do things differently with less money and keep us moving in tough times and the winter months. These events are free for Inclusion North members but non-members can buy places if space is available.

We will send out more information soon but in the meantime please hold the date in your diary

Doing Services Differently A New paper from the New Economics Foundation This report is about local innovation in services for disabled people written by the New Economics Foundation This means doing services differently so that they help make the lives of disabled people better and give them greater choice and control, helping them to participate equally in society. They would particularly like learn more about the services they provide to patients with a learning disability. They have put together 2 surveys: Survey for Patients with Learning Disabilities who have used our Patient Transport Service. Survey for Patients with Learning Disabilities who have used our A&E/999 emergency service. You can find the survey at: www.yas.nhs.uk

Easy Read Leaflet on Going to a Magistrate Court HM Courts and Tribunal service and Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Learning Disability Staff have produced an easy read photographic leaflet to explain the magistrates court process to people with learning disabilities. You can see the leaflet by visiting the link below: www.cwp.nhs.uk/Publications/Leaflets/ldleaflets/Documents/Go ing%20to%20a%20magistrates%20court.pdf Family charter from Dimensions Dimensions have done a charter that says what families can expect of them as a support provider supporting their family member You can find out more information at: www.dimensions-uk.org/assets/familycharter Making Reasonable Adjustments to Cancer Screening This is a report from Improving Health and Lives about the three national cancer screening programmes, and builds on the work of the Cornwall Cancer Screening Team to describe some of the reasonable adjustments that have been put in place to increase access to screening by people with learning disabilities. Direct payments for people who lack capacity to consent The Mental Health Foundation are working on a project to investigate how direct payments work for people who may lack the capacity to consent. They are interested in speaking to people who have experience of receiving and managing direct payments for others. They are looking for participants in South Yorkshire to take part in a research interview which could be done over the telephone or in person. The interview would last no longer than one hour, and participants will be offered an incentive for taking part. This workshop is ideal for groups of people with learning disabilities who have personal experience of the issues involved such as disability harassment, discrimination, violence, hate crime, mate crime, and the concept of an unreliable witness. Identifying People with Learning Disabilities in Healthcare Systems Thursday 8th November 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM Leeds United Football Club, Elland Road, Leeds This event is designed to give participants the knowledge and tools to improve the identification and recording of individuals with learning disabilities in health care systems, and the detailed coding of the nature and characteristics of the persons learning disability. Are you Listening? A free event from ARC and BILD 9th November Department of Health, Room 102a, Skipton House, 80 London Rd, London SE1 6LH 10.30 4pm Are you listening? is a meeting co-hosted by ARC and BILD to examine the current situation in relation to support for people with learning disabilities from ethnic minority communities and their families.
