Seismic importance factor, Ip

Ip=……… 1 as per table 16-K, for category 3

Seismic coefficient, Ca
Ca=…….. 0.19 as per table 16-Q, assuming soft soil (Se), and alternative for zone 1,
since for zone 0, coefficient is 0, so total seismic force will be zero.

The friction force Ff= 0.1053696 kN/mm

The slip force due to dead load………………………………………… 0.0190594 kN/mm
The slip force due to live load………………………………………….. 0.045 kN/mm
The factored combined slip force: 1.4*G + 1.6*Fw………………….. 0.0986831 kN/mm
Combined slip force=…………….. 0.098683 < 0.10537 kN/mm-friction force………… safe

Note: The additional safety against pipe slippery will be provided by the support location,
which is very close to the pipe joint extension so the pipe will rest on the clamp (bracket) as per
figure bellow, and the joint extension will be used as stoper against slippery.

5. THE LOAD DISTRIBUTION ON THE CLAMP/STEEL BRACKET LOCATION

Forces are:
5.1 dead load:
vertical force…………….. 14.7953 kN
bending moment………… 4.438589 kNm
5.2 live load:
vertical force…………….. 28.26 kN
bending moment………… 8.478 kNm
5.3 seismic load horizontal perpendicular / longitudinall
horizontal force………….. 3.49169 kN
bending moment………… 10.47507 kNm
The seismic bending moment is due to seismic force eccentricity, since the seismic force
is acting in the pipe center of gravity (C1) as per figure 1.

6. THE CHECK OF THE STEEL BRACKET

Is calculated in softwear STAAD PRO 2006 and input/output files are shown on following
pages.
The deisgn criteria AISC ASD included, and the bracket is checked on the torsion stress.
