fire and flood, with great loss of life and property! Ap-

9. How did Sister White see the fulfilment of' this
prophecy?
ANSWER: "I was shown the inhabitants of the earth
in the utmost confusion. War, bloodshed. privation, want,
famine, and pestilence were abroad in the land. As these
things surrounded God's people, they began to press to-
gether, and to cast aside their little difficulties. Self-
dignity no longer controlled them; deep humility took its
place. Suffering, perplexity, and privation caused reason
to resume its thron€, and the passionate and unreasonable
man became sane, and acted with discretion and wisdom.
"My attention was then called from the scene. There
seemed to be a little time of peace. Once more. the inhabi-
tants of the earth were presented before me; and again
everything was in the utmost confusion. Strife, war, and
bloodshed, with famine and pestilence, raged everywhere.
Other nations were engaged in this war and confusion.
War caused famine. Want and bloodshed caused pestilence.
And then men's hearts failed them for fear, 'and for look··
9
ing after those things which are coming on the earth.' "-

committed the sin which has no forgiveness in this life or'
in the life to come. I answer, I do not see the slightest
evidence that this is the case. What constitutes the sin
against the Holy Ghost?-It is wilfully attributing to-
Satan the work of the Holy Spirit. For example, sup_·
pose that one is a witness of the special work 0'1 the Spirit
of God. He has convincing evidence the work is in har-
mon with the Scd tures and the SpIrit witnesses with his.
spirIt t at It is of Go. Afterward, however, he falls under
temptation; ride, self-sufficiency, or some other evil trait,
controls him; and reJectIng all the evidence of its divine'
character, he declares that that whIch he had before ac-
knowledged to be the power of the Holy Spirit was the
power of Satan. It is through the medium of His Spirit
that God works upon the human heart; and when men wil-·
