Concerns and Issues of the Senior High school

1. On curriculum
1.1. No course offered on life skills related to the Academic Strand
that will make graduates ready to work .
Example for;
STEM
Science – Care giving
Medical Transcription
Engineering – Floor plan drawing and perspective
illustration
Autocad( computer aided design) skills
Mathematics – Statistical data processing

1.2. Work Immersion

1.2.a. Difficulty to partner with industry or LGU’s workplaces
related to academic track
1.2.a.1. Limited Industry found in the area as compared to
the number of SHS students going for Work
Immersion.

1.2.a.2. LGU’s do not accept SHS for Work Immersion as it

will affect their services.

1.2.b. During the work immersion, SHS students are not

allowed to do “hands on” experience but instead
“shadowing “where there is no meaningful learning that
occurs.

1.2.c. Because there is no affiliation fee given to work supervisor,

some organization asked for donations
and sometimes the acceptance for work immersion is
lukewarm.

1.2.d. Work Immersion teachers load. Suppose to be one teacher

for every 10 students. However, the 40 students in a
section is equivalent to a one subject teaching load.
Hence, the processing of the learning experience is limited
or found wanting.

1.3 No Unified course offering on academic track per semester hence,

A transferee student will be on irregular status, resulting to
extended stay in the program, and or additional expense if back
subjects are to be offered in a summer.

1.4 The breath or the coverage of topics on curriculum guide is too

much to be covered in allotted face to face contact.

2. On Teachers

1. Limited human resources especially on specialized and applied

subjects.
2. Need training on new subjects like empowerment technologies,
disaster readiness and risk reduction and research etc.
3. Difficulty in looking for visiting lecturer because of remuneration
4. Most of the teachers hired in the SHS are new graduates since senior
teachers are transferring to government schools hence SHS teachers
lack the experience and are not competent enough to teach the
subjects.
5. Teachers need training to develop in the students the 21th century
learning skills.
6. Teachers are insufficiently provided with the trainings in their
respective field of specialization during their pre-service years to
prepare them for subjects to be taught in the SHS.
7. Shared faculty among JHS and SHS and College and this may result to
conflict in terms of schedule of activities, consultation and
management specifically in areas on coaching and mentoring.
8. Qualification of teachers to teach Junior vs Senior High School where
Senior High School have higher pay than the Junior High School.

3. Administration

3.1. Administrations are not fully oriented on the paradigm of SHS

programs hence are not consciously aware and are not able to
stringently adhere to DepEd orders implementations particularly
on the following:
1. Assessment
2. Planning and Evaluation
3. Curricular or Instructional Mentoring and Monitoring
4. Administrative related functions like parent conferencing,
career guidance program, and formulating remediation
program
5. Finding ways and Means to improve school operations

3.2. Provisions of adequate library resources for references and

research and adequate facilities and equipment in science and
computer laboratories.
