DETAILED LESSON PLAN (DLP)

DLP No.: Learning Area: Grade Level: Quarter: Duration:
W1- D3 Earth & Space 10 1st 60 minutes
 Describe the distribution of active volcanoes, earthquake epicenters, and major mountain Code:
LEARNING COMPETENCY belts. (S10ES-Ia-j-36.1.3)

Key Concepts/ Understanding to be Volcanoes occur when magma (melted rock) from within the Earth's crust reaches the Earth's surface, and are
Developed generally located along the boundaries of tectonic plates (large segments of the Earth's crust). Volcanic activity is a function
of the plate boundary type; therefore, different types of volcanoes form at different plate boundaries.
Volcanoes are found along destructive (subducting) plate boundaries, constructive (divergent) plate boundaries and at hot
spots in the earth's surface.
Knowledge Explain how volcanoes form
Identify and plot the active volcanoes in the world in its location in the map and describe the distribution
Skills
Specific Learning Objectives of the volcanoes
Attitudes Describe the benefits and danger of living near a volcano
Values Disaster Risk Management
2. CONTENT Tectonic Plates- Volcanoes

3. LEARNING RESOURCES
Materials Pictures of top 10 stunning volcanoes in the world
4. PROCEDURES
 Present to class pictures of volcanoes
4.1 Introductory Activity
 The students identify and name the volcanoes presented in front and give its location
THE MAP:
4.2 Activity  The World Map is posted on the board
 Our country is blessed with so many landforms or features. Name these land features and plot its location in the map.
Interaction:
1. Which country has most number of volcanoes?
4.3 Analysis 2. Is there a pattern where volcanoes can be found?
3. How do volcanoes form?
4. What is your general observation in terms of the distribution of volcanoes?
A volcano is a mountain that opens downward to a pool of molten rock below the surface of the earth. When pressure
builds up, eruptions occur. Gases and rock shoot up through the opening and spill over or fill the air with lava fragments.
4.4 Abstraction
Volcanoes are distributed all the world but mostly near the edges of tectonic plates. There are some volcanoes located in
'intra-plate' areas (far from the ridges) that form from hotspots, such as the Hawaiian islands. (Credits: Quora.com)
Interaction:
1. Is living near a volcano beneficial to human beings? If yes, in what way/s?
4.5 Application 2. 2. Is it hazardous to live near a volcano? Why?
3. 3. What will you do during volcanic eruption?

Direction: Fill in the

Venn diagram found
on the side showing
the benefits and
hazards of volcanoes.
Fill-in the numbered
spaces
π4.6 Assessment

Group Assignment:
4.7 Assignment Each group member must bring the following materials:
Compass, map of the Philippines, ruler and pencil
4.8 Concluding Activity
Indicate below special cases including but not limited to continuation of lesson plan to the following day in case of re-teaching or lack of time, transfer of
lesson to the following day, in cases of classes suspension, etc.
5. REMARKS

Reflect on your teaching and assess yourself as a teacher. Think about your student’s progress this week. What works? What else needs to be done to help
6. REFLECTIONS the students learn? Identify what help your instructional supervisors can provide for you so when you meet them, you can ask them relevant questions.
Indicate below whichever is/are appropriate.
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the
evaluation.
B. No. of learners who require additional
activities for remediation.

C. Did the remedial lessons work? No. of

learners who have caught up with the lesson.
D. No. learners who continue to require
remediation.

E. Which of my learning strategies worked

well? Why did these work?

F. What difficulties did I encounter which my

principal or supervisor can help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized materials did I
use/discover which I wish to share with other
teachers?
