1.0 PURPOSE

This procedure establishes a wire brush and air cleaning procedure for all types of pipes and
fittings including all the on-line components of the in the pipeline system.

2.0 SCOPE OF WORK

The procedure is applicable to personnel who are responsible for cleaning and washing all
types of pipes and fittings including all the on-line components of the in the pipeline system
with the wire brush and dry air. Documentation of this activity will be in appropriate shift
records and / or daily maintenance log books. Detergent cleaning and washing works will be
done in-situ and the detachable or removable parts may be cleaned in the project / plant wash
room.

3.0 APPLICABILITY
The document is applicable for the wire brush and air cleaning procedure for all types of pipes
and fittings including all the on-line components of the in the pipeline system.by the operation
and maintenance technicians.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITY
The operation and maintenance technicians under supervision of the Shift – In – Charge.

5.0 POLICY STATEMENT


This procedure is consistent with other cleaning procedures utilized for
the entire project / plant facility.

8.0 PROCEDURES
This procedure, wire brush and air cleaning procedure for all types of pipes and fittings is actually a
part system of mechanical cleaning. All fittings and the components of the pipeline system must be
first wire brushed and then dry air cleaning shall be subsequently taken up to remove the stains, dusts,
dirts and other foreign materials stickled to the surfaces of the piping materials.

8.1 Materials:

8.1.1 The following will be used in completion of this procedure:


.
 Dry compressed air ;
 Lint free wipes;
 Hot air drier &
 Logbooks.
 Air driven rotary wire brushes of different types and sizes
 Cleaning waste jute or cloths.
8.2 Safety precautions:
8.2.1 Prior to commencement of the cleaning and washing works, close all the connected rotary
parts of the pipeline system, if any. Switch off near by air circulation or live vacuum system, if
there is.
8.2.2 Disconnect the connected pneumatic system with the online instruments and machineries;
8.2.3 If the cleaning is required in a restricted place, keep open all the doors and windows for natural
ventilation and make sure dry and fresh air entry in the cleaning zone;
8.2.4 Use of all the PPE like mask, hand gloves, eye-protector or safety goggles etc. is required.
8.3 Operation:
8.3.1 Dedust external surfaces by using nylon brush and vacuum cleaner;
8.3.2 Remove scales, rust by using air driven rotary wire brushes gently and locally.
8.3.3 Wipe off all the scales, dirts, etc. as loosened by wire brushing manually by
rubbing raw jute or by compressed air flow with all the seriousness;
8.3.4 Dry pipe surface, fittings and other components with dry lint free wipes
and subsequently dry with the dry air.
8.3.5 Repeat the same process for each time.
