Roll ball – drill one

Description - Players are to stand in groups of 3 with 1 student acting as the


opponent, the ball carrier and an acting half
- The two ‘attacking’ players alternatively roll ball and act as
acting half while the other player acts as the defender and
progressively moves backwards across
- Once the group reaches the other side, change positions and
repeat the actions
- The objective is for the player in possession to either be
touched and effect a touch before performing roll ball
- The acting half, once in position possession moves around in
front of the player who completed the roll ball and so on
- Commence the dill at a slow walk and then progress to a walk,
slow jog, half pace and then full pace.
Variations Progression:
- Change the speed. Start the drill at a slow walk and build way
up to full paced
- Increase the distance
- Add in defenders

Regression:
- Decrease the distance
KTP Roll ball
- The player with the ball faces the opposing team’s touchdown
zone
- The ball is placed on the ground between the feet preferably
stationary however it may roll backwards a maximum of 1m
- The player then steps over the ball

E: 1 ball and 2 cones per group
S: 10 x 10m grid
T: 10-15 minutes

Description - Players are divided into 2 groups and stand single file facing each
other at opposite sides of the grid
- The first player in one group has the ball and runs over to the
second group, turns around at a 180 degrees and performs a roll
ball
- The player then moves to the end of the line
- The player who receives the ball runs over to the first group and
repeats the actions and so forth
- The objective is the ensure that players roll ball correctly and face
the required direction

Variations Progression:
- Make it a relay
- Add scoring with a score line to make it more competitive
- Put more skills into the drills such as passing
