DESIGN OF SQUARE FOOTING

(INVESTIGATION)
1. Investigate, a square footing has 500mm x 500mm column and
has 2.6m x 2.6m dimension of the footing and the effective
depth of 350mm, concrete cover of 75mm is reinforced by 12-
20mm diameter bars. Check for Punching Shear and Beam Shear.
Using NSCP 2015. Assume fy = 276 MPa and f’c = 21 MPa.

Data Given:
c = 500 mm Nb = 12 bars cc = 75 mm
B = 2.6 m db = 20 mm fy = 276 MPa
L = 2.6 m d = 350 mm f’c = 21 MPa

Solution:
Solve for the steel area, As:
As = NAb
where,

Ab = π⁄4 (db)2

Ab = π⁄4 (20)2 = 314.159 mm2

As = (12)(314.159 mm2)
As = 3769.908 mm2
Solve for the steel ratio, 𝜌:

Solve for the moment, Mu:

2. Investigate, a square footing has 380mm x 380mm column and
has 2.45m x 2.45m dimension of the footing and the effective
depth of 300mm, concrete cover of 70mm is reinforced by 8-
20mm diameter bars. Check for Punching Shear and Beam Shear.
Using NSCP 2015. Assume fy = 276 MPa and f’c = 21 MPa.

Data Given:
c = 380 mm Nb = 8 bars cc = 70 mm
B = 2.45 m db = 20 mm fy = 276 MPa
L = 2.45 m d = 300 mm f’c = 21 MPa

Solution:
Solve for the steel area, As:
As = NAb

Ab = π⁄4 (20)2 = 314.159 mm2

As = (8)(314.159 mm2)
As = 2513.272 mm2
Solve for the steel ratio, 𝜌:
