A. Preliminary Activities

1. Greetings

Good morning class!

Good morning, Ma’am. Karlyn!

2. Prayer

_____, kindly lead our prayer.

Let us put ourselves in the presence of

God. In the name of the Father, the Son
and the Holy Spirit.

Angel of God, my guardian dear,

to whom God's love commits me here,
ever this day be at my side,
to light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.

Okay, thank you.

3. Arrangement of self

Before we begin, can you open your cam

and mute your microphone? Reminder
class, please do unmute your microphone
if you have a question or if I ask you a
question. Is it clear?

Yes Ma’am.

Ok, great.

4. Checking of Attendance

Let's first list those who entered the class

today. When I call your name, your
response is Present.
Present!

Okay, very good class.

B. Motivation (1,2,3 Sing!)

Class, I prepared a Time Song Video

here. What you’re going to do is to watch
and sing the song video I prepared.
Please do cooperate and listen this
carefully.

https://youtu.be/NfwMUa6iAds
Yes, Ma’am.
Class, did you enjoy the song video?

Ok, very good.

Based on the video that you watched, I

have a question.
Aniel: It is all about Time Measure.
First, what it is all about?

Second question, what are things or

instrument that you noticed that will Cora: The things that I noticed are wall
measure the time? clock, alarm clock, calendar, and watch.

And the third question, what are the

examples of the time measure? Jereka: The examples of the time
measure are seconds, minutes, hours,
days, and year.

Ok, you are all right and very good.

C. Presentation of the Lesson

Class, based on the video song you

watched, I will divide you into four groups.
I will give each group an example of a
time measure from the song video. And
what each group will do is to guess what
the corresponding conversion of time
measure is contained in each time
measure example. Kindly send the
answer thru messenger. Reminder class,
I will only give you 5 minutes to finish the
group task. After you have accomplished
your group task, one representative of the
group will present it to the class. Okay,
you can message your groupmates for
the participation of doing task. The time
will start now.

Group 1- Minute

Group 2- Hour

Group 3- Day

Group 4- Year
Group 1: The corresponding conversion
of time measure minute is 60 seconds.
wall clock, alarm clock, calendar, and
Group 2: The corresponding conversion
watch.
of time measure hour is 60 minutes.

Group 3: The corresponding conversion

of time measure day is 24 hours.

Group 4: The corresponding conversion

of time measure year is 365 days and
366 on a leap year.

Good job, everyone!

And now we will move on to our new

lesson regarding Chapter 4 Measurement
Lesson 1 Time Measure so that you can
understand it better.
D. Abstraction (Let’s Discuss)

Chapter 4: Measurement

Lesson 1 Time Measure

Time measurement is very important for

us to learn because we are using almost
the whole day every day. In the song
video, we saw the words minutes, hours,
days and years are all measures of time.
The question is, how long is each of
these?

Study the table and the examples that 1 min (minute) = 60 s (seconds)
follow. Class, please read it together.
1h (hour) = 60 min
1 min (minute) = 60 s (seconds)
1 day = 24 h
1h (hour) = 60 min
1 week = 7 days
1 day = 24 h
1 month = 30 days (April, June,
1 week = 7 days September,
November)
1 month = 30 days (April, June,
September,
November)
31 days (January,
31 days (January, March, May, July,
March, May, July, August, October,
August, October, December)
December)

28 days (February 28 days (February

on Regular year) on Regular year)
29 days (February
on leap year)
29 days (February
1 y (year) = 365 days (366 on on leap year)
leap year)
1 y (year) = 365 days (366 on
1 decade = 10 y leap year)
1 century = 100 y 1 decade = 10 y
1 century = 100 y

In converting from one unit to another, the

rule is:
Vina: Multiplication
from bigger to smaller unit – multiply

Again, what is the operation will be use

Monica: bigger unit x small unit
from bigger to smaller unit?

And, what is the formula will be use here?

Mae: Division

from smaller to bigger unit - divide

Xianmar: smaller unit / bigger unit
Again, what is the operation will be use
from smaller to bigger unit?

And, what is the formula will be use here?

So, here’s the problem:

Example 1: How many minutes are in 3

hours?

Solution: Since 1 h = 60 min, then

multiply 60 x 3=180. So, 3 h equal to 180
min.

Example 2: How many hours are in one-

half day?
1
Solution: There are 24 h in 1 day. For
2
1
day, multiply x 24 or divide 24 by 2 to
2
get 12 h.

Example 3: How many seconds are in

2
4 minutes?
3

Solution: There are 60 s in a minute, so in

2 2
4 min: (4 x 60) + ( x 60)= 240 + 40 =
3 3
280 min.

Example 4: Roger started doing his Amount of Time Spent = Time Finished -
project at 5:40 pm and finished it at 7:45 Time Started
p.m.

How long did he do his project?

Solution: To find the time spent for the

project, use the formula below:

Amount of Time Spent = Time Finished -

Time Started

What is the formula again to find the time

spent?

hour minute

Time Finished - 7 45

Time Started 5 40

______________________________

Time Spent 2 5

The amount of time spent doing the

project is 2 h 5 min.

Example 5: Genebibe went driving. She

left at 10:30 a.m. and arrived at 3:15 p.m.
How long did she drive?

Solution: Subtract 10:30 from 3:15.

hour minute
-
Time Arrived 3 15

Time Left 10 30

______________________________

Time Travelled

Observe that the number of minutes in

the minuend is smaller than that of the
subtrahend. In this case, rename the 3
hours as 2 hours and 60 minutes and
regroup the 60 minutes with 15 minutes
to make 75 minutes. Then proceed to
subtraction.

hour minute

Time Arrived 2 75
-
Time Left 10 30

______________________________

Time Travelled 45

Since the number of hours in the minuend

is smaller than that of the subtrahend, we
can always add 12 hours due to the fact
that time is modulo 12. It means that the
number of hours in the minuend will
become 14. We can now subtract.

hour minute

Time Arrived -
14 75

Time Left 10 30 Yes Ma’am.

______________________________
Time Travelled 4 45

It means that Genebibe drove for 4 h 45

minutes.

That’s all.

It’s everything clear?

IV. Application: (Converts me now!)

Now class, I have here an activity about

the conversion of time measure. If you
really understand the topic, all of you will
compute the following question. Write the
answer in your math notebook. I will give
you 10 minutes to finish the activity. After
you’ve finish the activity take a picture of Yes, Ma’am.
your activity then send it to my
messenger account: Karlyn Ramos.

Compute the following:

How old are you in terms of:

a. months, Junnette: I have learned the concept of
b. weeks, and time measure to solve the measure time
c. days? in seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks,
It’s everything clear? months and years with the use of
instruments.

V. Generalization: (Light Bulb)

 Based on your activity, what have

you learned? Kyte: It is important in our daily lives
because time provides us with a measure
of change by putting dates on moments,
fixing the durations of events, and
specifying which events happen before
which other events.

 How important is time

measurement to your daily life?

Reanne: The 8 examples of Time

Measures are minute, hour, day, week,
month, year, decade, and century.

 Again, what are the 8 examples of

Time Measures?

Let’s Recall!

1 minute= 60 seconds

1 hour= 60 minutes

1 day= 24 hours

1 week= 7 days

1 month= 28 to 31days

1 year= 12 months (365/366 days)

1 decade= 10 years

1 century= 100 years

Very Good!
VI. Evaluation

VII. Assignment: (Let's Convert Again!)

Direction: Solve the following problems. Write your answer in the Math notebook.

1. One morning the girl scouts started hiking at 5:50. They arrived at the camp site
at 8:20. How long did they hike?
2. In a certain year, there were exactly four Fridays and exactly four Mondays in
December. On what day of the week did the 25 th of December fall that year?
3. Shelly sleeps for 7 hours 30 minutes in a day. For how many hours did she sleep
in the month of January?
