Grade/Year Level: Grade 10 Subject Area: Science Date: October 25, 2021
1. Select a learner from the class which you have previously observed.
2. Interview the teacher about the learner's characteristics and the community.
3. Conduct a home visit to your selected learner's residence.
4. Interview the parents about
a. the rules they implement at home concerning their child's schooling.
b. the learner's activities and behavior while at home.
5. Write the Learner's Profile.
6. Analyze your observation and interview data.
7. Reflect on your observation experience.
OBSERVE
Use the activity form provided for you to document your observations
Read the following carefully before you begin to observe/interview. Then write
your observation report on the space provided.
The Learner
1. Make a general observation of the learner. Describe him/her in each of the
domains of development:
• physical - body built and height (thin, chubby, underweight, overweight),
level of physical activity (fast, slow, lethargic, active, etc.)
• social-interaction with teachers and classmates (loner, shy, sociable,
friendly, gets into fights, liked by others, etc.)
• emotional moods, temperament, cries easily, loses temper, happy, shows
enthusiasm, excited, indifferent, etc.)
• cognitive (appears to understand lessons, copes with the lessons, excels,
lags behind, shows reasoning skills, turns in assignments and
requirements, etc.)
1. Conduct a home visit. Once there, observe the home set-up (Home is orderly, family
pictures in the living room, etc.)
2. Use the Interview Questions on the next page. Just ask the questions with which you
feel comfortable.
Your teacher may ask you to use a more detailed interview guide. Be free to
translate the questions, if necessary.
After you have gathered all the necessary data. Write the learner's development
profile using the outline below. Type the profile on a separate sheet and attached it to
this learning Episode.
THE LEARNER'S DEVELOPMENT PROFILE (Outline)
Family Profile
Number of Siblings: 3
Birth Order: 1st
Parent:
Mother: Susana R. Dabalos
Age: 42
Social Development
The student develops good socialization status, having a good interaction and
communication with peers and with his teacher and other people in the
community.
Emotional-Moral Development
The student is close to his parents and he opens up which makes a good
emotional bond with them. He develops good values such as being responsible
and respectful. He follows the rules of his parents which indicate that he is
emotionally aware what his parents would feel if he violates it and understands
their good intention. He helps in household chores and also he helps in doing the
classroom tasks.
Cognitive Development
He can do on his own now which shows a big development on his cognitive. He
can can do problem solving and I identify things from right to wrong. Regards to
his study he is doing good though he still needs monitoring and tutoring just like
other child.
Findings
As he grow the student is doing better and better in terms of physical, social,
emotional/moral and cognitive development. He is doing what normal child do, he
has time to play, to socialize with others, to do good in class and participate in
curricular activities, he is doing good also inside the house being a responsible
son, a respectful one and develops a good attitude. This is the result of the kind of
nurturing of the parents did, with their love, support and discipline the child grow
as a better student, a better son and a better person.
Conclusions
Therefore I conclude that both the school and the home cooperates in molding the
child to develop holistically especially developing their full potential. It also shows
how nurturing and having a positive and healthy environment creates a big impact
to the child as a learner. Family plays an important role in shaping a child in all
ways because learning starts with the family at home. On the other hand school is
also important part of our child's life. It gives valuable lessons to the child in terms
of knowledge, growth, and development. The school provides knowledge for
being social and interactive with different people. It also teaches students on how
to become responsible as a citizen.
Recommendations
The parents should continue on doing the good kind of nurturing the child until he
become fully develop to become a better person who has a solid foundation. The
teacher also should continue on teaching the things that a child needs to learn
until he become fully equip and to make sure he will become someone who is
holistically healthy. Both the home and school has a responsibility to build an
environment conducive for learning. Parents should extends beyond those basic
needs too, helping to create a sense of belonging and community, a support
system, security, and education. They should be oriented when to impose
discipline and when to give rewards to reinforce the needs of their child.
ANALYZE
Your findings and recommendations in the Learner Development Profile will help you
answer the questions here.
1. From your home visit and interview, what do you think is the style of parenting
experienced by the learner? Explain your answer.
From my home visit interview, the style of parenting experienced by the learner is
authoritative type in which this type of parenting the learner is self-governing as for
the information collected he is allowed to do things like he is allowed to play, do
actions freely, and joining with friends as long as he must follow the rules imposed
by his parents.
2. Relating your data with what you learned from child development, what family
factors do you think contribute to the development and over-all adjustment of
the learner in school?
As what I have learned in Child and Adolescent Development the factors that
contribute to the development and over – all adjustment of the learner in school are:
first, it contributes how the learners are nurtured by his parents, their financial
setting, and cultural background of the family unit.
“Education begins at home” Family plays an important role in shaping a child in all
ways because learning starts with the family at home. This quote helped me in
finding and understanding the behavior of the learner. What he did in school reflects
how he is nurtured and reared by his parents at home. One of these effects for
instance, if the learner act and possessed misconduct in the classroom, then what
he did especially when it is a serious type then surely his parents are expected to
visit the school and consult for the performance of his child to his adviser or teacher.
4. How can the teacher partner with the community to contribute to the
development and learning of the students? Who are the people or which
institutions can the teacher tap to seek advice regarding the development and
learning of students.
REFLECT
1. Reflect on your own development as a child. What type of parenting did you
experience? How did it affect you?
I also have experienced the authoritative way of parenting in which I am free to do
things on my own but I must follow the rules that are being impose by my parents.
Which I appreciated a lot as I grew because I have learned a lot in life. My
foundation during my childhood become solid. I can do things on my own now and
thanks to my parents and their way of nurturing me when I was young. Those rules
were set to discipline me, to guide me and to make sure I am walking at the right
path. I am who I am now because of my parents. I become responsible, determined,
discipline, and a better person towards everyone around me.
When the time comes that I’ll become a teacher surely I will establish a home
school collaboration, where I will keep in touch and monitor my students
development with the help of the family. I will continue on communicating with them
inside and outside the school setting, because it would be both beneficial to me and
to the parents if we can successfully help the child/my student to maximize their full
potential and help them in any possible way we could offer.
