MMSU dear
Alma Mater beloved
To you we promise our never-ending love;
Though fate may bring us
To other lands afar,
Our hearts and thoughts will always be
With you wherever we are.
The College of Engineering (COE) was formerly established in 1986 although it has its beginnings
in 1982 when civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering started as curriculum offerings of the
then MMSU Institute of Technology (IT). The courses were offered both in Laoag and Batac
campuses under the supervision of the IT dean.
On May 29, 1985, the three degree programs ceased to be supervised by the IT and were called
engineering degree programs. The program’s curricula were then revised to suit the requisites of
the board of civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering and the demands of the engineering
profession as a whole.
It was in 1986 when the College of Engineering and Technology was established and engineering
students and faculty were transferred to the Batac campus.
The college was renamed College of Engineering in 1993 and more engineering courses were
offered: metallurgical, mining, computer, chemical, and electronics and communications.
With the advent of new technologies and innovations including opportunities on the field of
material science and engineering, the Ceramics Engineering program was offered as a new
program added to the existing engineering programs of COE on June 1, 1993.
In 2010, the College welcomed the transfer of Agricultural Engineering from the then College of
Agriculture and Forestry to the College of Engineering.
The college has been providing relevant and quality engineering education that produces
graduates who perform remarkably in agricultural, chemical, civil, electrical, electronics and
mechanical engineer’s licensure examinations.
Several graduates have garnered places in top 20 of their respective licensure examinations.
Likewise, several programs were awarded top performers in licensure examinations.
College Goals
Mission
To sustain an effective and responsive College of Engineering that will serve as an instrument in
regional, national, and global industrialization.
Goal
To produce competitive engineers in accordance with act standards of excellence who shall
assume active leadership in the field of engineering and technology.
General Objectives
Specific Objectives
Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest and broadest engineering field. The same
thing when MMSU Industrial Technology offered BS Mechanical Engineering (BSME)
Program as one of the first three engineering courses offered way back in 1982 before
the Con ollege of Engineering was established in 1986. It is an engineering field of study
that concerns itself with mechanical design, energy conversion, fuel and combustion
technologies, heat transfer, materials, manufacturing processes, automatic control,
product safety and reliability, renewable energy, and technological impacts to society.
The BSME program aims to produce graduates that can plan, design, manage, operate,
and maintain mechanical systems, machineries / equipment, mechanical
plants/processes, and projects; and to provide quality Mechanical Engineering education
that will allow the full development of the students to prepare them in their professional
life as a globally competitive engineers who are cognizant of their duties.
Originally, BSME program offers a 5-year course with 217 units on its old curriculum. This
is reduced to a new curriculum 4-year engineering program prepared for the K to 12
curriculum totaling to 187 units. The said new curriculum offers two track with CHED
contents notation on CAD-CAM; and on Energy Management, Conservation and Audit
Measures.
Graduates of this course will become Managers and supervisors, Safety Engineers &
Inspectors, Quality Control/Assurance Engineers, Mechanical Designers, MEPF Engineers,
R & D Engineers, Consultants, Academians, Sales Engineers, HVAC Engineers, Production
Engineers, Maintenance Engineers, Instrumentation Engineers, Mechanical Plant
Supervisors, successful businessman/entrepreneur related to Mechanical Engineering,
and others that may be employed on shore or off shore, either on land, air, or on board
water craft.
OIC-Director IV
on jet engine design, submarines, hot air balloons, textiles and new
materials, medical and hospital equipment, and refrigerators and other home
appliances. Anything that is mechanical or must interact with another
machine or human being is within the broad scope of mechanical
engineering.
CONTENTS NOTED
In this track, the students will be equipped with methods and skills in
operating mechanical equipment and facility to operate in a more efficient
and effective way through energy conservation and audit practices.
