● Familiarize with the different types of
communicative strategies.
● Reflect on learnings about the types of
communicative strategies in different situations.
● Create a comic strip that reflects the types of
communicative strategies.

“First, let us define the meaning of communitive

strategy”

“Who would like to read the definition of communicative

strategy?” “Yes go ahead” “Communicative strategies are deliberate plans and
tactics used by individuals to convey messages
“These are what we use in effectively conveying effectively to their target audience”
messages to our audience”

“Very good, now there are seven types of

communicative strategies, let us discuss them one by
one.”

“Before anything else, I want you to look at this photo

and tell me your thoughts on these”
“The first one is Nomination”

“You have seen this one in our first activity. What can (Students answer may vary)
you say about the picture?”

“Very good. In this picture the child initiates the

conversation by giving out a topic.”

“Now let us discuss the meaning and essence of

Nomination, who would like to read the definition?”

“It is where a speaker carries out nomination to

collaboratively and productively establish a topic. (The student reads the definition)
Basically, when you employ this strategy, you try to open
a topic with the people you are talking to.”

“Thank you so much”

“In simpler terms, nomination it involves starting a

conversation by involving the others in deciding what to
talk about.

“Can you give me some examples of Nomination?” (Students answer may vary)

“Thank you, that is correct”

“Some other examples are,

Have you heard

about the
implementation of
the face-to-face
classes?
You’re my new (Students answer may vary)

classmate, right?
Would you like me
to tour you around
our school? (The student reads the definition)

tour you around our school?”

“Next we have, Restriction. Who would like to answer?”

“What can you say about the picture?” (The student reads the definition)

“Very good, in this picture the student answers the

teachers questions with only the thing that she asks
them to do, and in this case it is to speak in English.”

“Can somebody read the definition of restriction?”

“That is correct”

“Now let us discuss the meaning and essence of

Restriction, who would like to read the definition?”

“It refers to any limitation you may have as a speaker.

When communicating in the classroom, in a meeting, or (Students answer may vary)
while hanging out with your friends, you are typically
given specific instructions that you must follow. These
instructions confine you as a speaker and limit what you
can say.”

“Thank you so much”

“Restriction is about constraining or limiting the response
or reaction within a set of categories or instructions in a
conversation”
(Students answer may vary)
“Can you give me some examples of Restriction?”

different topic and must stick to discussing peer
pressure as requested.”

taking, who would like to read the definition?”

code of behavior behind establishing and sustaining a
productive conversation, but the primary idea is to give
all communicators a chance to speak.”

“Thank you so much”

“In conversation, turn-taking involves the decision-

making process that determines who gets the
opportunity to speak. It involves a set of unspoken rules
that guide how a conversation flows, aiming to ensure
that all participants have the chance to express
themselves.”
(The student reads the definition)
“Can you give me some examples of Turn-taking?”

“Thank you, that is correct”

“Some other examples are,

The spoken cues “What do you think?”, “How about
you?”, “You wanted to say something?” provide others
chance to speak.”

communication process there could be no distractions
that could hinder the success of relaying the
information.”

communication. By managing who may speak, they can
collectively develop the topic instead of a sudden shift.”

“For the next one, we have Topic Shifting”

“What can you say about the picture?”

(Students answer may vary)

“Very good”

“We can see that this group of friends are talking about a
certain topic, then suddenly the other friend introduced a
new topic”

“Now let us discuss the meaning and essence of Topic

Shifting, who would like to read the definition?”

“Topic shifting, as the name suggests, involves moving

from one topic to another. In other words, it is where one
part of a conversation ends and where
another begins.”

“Thank you so much”

“This is used to change the topic to a new one which (Students answer may vary)
helps communication keep going. Unlike Topic control
which control that stays on one topic, topic shift is about
introducing new topics.”

“Can you give me some examples of Topic shifting?”

“Thank you, that is correct”

“Some other examples are,

We can use conversational transitions like “By the way, (The student reads the definition)
where is your little brother”, “Before I forget, the deadline
of our activities in Oral Communication is on Sunday”
and so on and so forth”

“Next, we have Repair”

“What can you say about the picture?”

praised the man but then had to wait for a feedback so it
is time to go.”
