This self-learning package will introduce you to the concept of scientific attitudes and
basic science process skills. This will enable you to demonstrate the different scientific atti-
tudes and basic science process skills that will help you meet the basic human needs and im-
prove living standards.
Scientific attitude can be defined as, “open-mindedness, a desire for accurate
knowledge, confidence in procedures for seeking knowledge and the expectation that the so-
lution of the problem will come through the use of verified knowledge”.
Scientific attitudes are the most important outcomes of science teaching. Though some
people view the scientific attitude as the by-product of teaching science, yet a majority of the
people consider them as equally important as the knowledge aspect. Science should be taught
directly and systematically because developing scientific attitude has several characteristic fea-
tures that distinguish it from other attitudes. This includes curiosity, intellectual honesty, criti-
cal mindedness, open-mindedness, skepticism, objectivity, perseverance. This self-learning
package will help you explore the different scientific attitudes and recognize its importance in
understanding Research.
