TOUR GUIDING COMPETITION

 This is an individual competition.


 The participants should have their visual presentation of their subject itinerary.
 They must wear appropriate attire.
 The participants will be given a 1-minute preparation time and 5 minutes for the performance.
 The participant can bring anything they want. They can use props or be creative as they can.
 The participants should be present on the site of competition an hour before.
 2 points/percent will be deducted for each excess minute.
 The Board of Judges (BOJ) shall comprise of three (3) or four (4) members from the private or
public sector, academe, or industry. They have remarkable qualifications and a good reputation.
The members of BOJ selected with consideration of their remarkable track record, strong
reputation, and integrity.
 In case of tie, the scores of the Chairman of the Board of Judges (BOJ) shall determine the
winner. If the scores of the Chairman of the Board are still tied, the chairman of the BOJ will
break the tie.

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING

Mastery of the Destination/s ---------- 30% (Knowledge of the destination)

Proper & Appropriate use of Communication Equipment and Other Aids --------25%

Communication Skills ------------20% (Tone & Quality of voice, Overall projection, Language Nuances)

Personal Appearance -------------15% (Cleanliness of the attire, confidence, stage presence)

Rapport with the Audience ------10% (Arouse the Interest of the Audience)

POSTER MAKING MECHANICS

Mechanics for a Poster Making Contest: Tourism and Peace - 30 Years of Connecting People, Places, and
Culture

Eligibility: Open to all CMDI TOURISM STUDENTS (1st year - 4th year)

Materials:

● Participants must use only ¼ illustration board for their posters. (15’’ x 20’’)
● Other materials such as markers, paints, crayons, and collages may be used.

Schedule:

Date: September 19, 2024 (Thursday)


Time: 8:30 am - 10:30 am (2 hours duration)

Guidelines:

● Posters must be original works and cannot be copied or plagiarized.


● Posters must adhere to the specified dimensions and format.
● Participants may use any materials or techniques for their posters but must adhere to the theme
and guidelines.
● Posters must be submitted on time.

Rules and Regulations:

● All entries must comply with the rules and regulations set forth by the organizers.
● Decisions made by the judges are final and binding.
● Participants agree to allow their posters to be displayed and published for promotional
purposes.
● Once it finds that your work is plagiarized, automatically disqualified.
● Make sure that your board (¼) is blank, with no sign of traces before the competition starts

MECHANICS FOR ESSAY WRITING

Theme: Theme: Tourism and Peace - 30 Years of Connecting People, Places, and Culture

1. Understanding the Essay Structure

Introduction

- Hook: Grab the reader’s attention.

- Background information: Provide context.

- Thesis statement: Present the main argument or purpose.

Body Paragraphs

- Topic sentence: Introduce the main idea of the paragraph.

- Evidence: Support the topic with facts, quotes, or examples.

- Explanation: Analyze how the evidence supports the thesis.

- Transition: Connect to the next paragraph.

Conclusion

- Restate the thesis: Summarize the main argument.

- Summary of main points: Briefly recap the body paragraphs.

- Closing thought: Leave the reader with a final insight or call to action.

2. Writing Mechanics

Clarity and Conciseness

- Use straightforward language.

- Avoid unnecessary jargon and complex sentences.

Grammar and Syntax

- Check for proper sentence structure.

3. Revision and Editing

Content Review

- Ensure all points support the thesis.

- Remove redundant information.

Proofreading

- Check for spelling and grammatical errors.

- Read aloud to catch awkward phrasing.

4. Final Touches

Formatting

- Follow any specific guidelines (MLA, APA, etc.).

- Ensure consistent font, spacing, and margins.

Citations

- Properly cite all sources used.

- Include a bibliography or works cited page.


QUIZ BEE

Mechanics:

1. Participants must be BSTM and SPDL students in CMDI-Bay.

2. Each team should only have two (2) members.

3. Each team will write their answers on a bond paper which is provided by the organizing
committee.

4. All teams will answer the same set of questions. Before the quiz master read the question, all
teams must raise their markers.

5. There will be three (3) components in the competition namely: EASY, MODERATE, and
DIFFICULT.

a. The EASY round is multiple choices. It has ten (10) questions which is worth of two (2)
points for every correct answer.

b. The MODERATE round is a mixed of multiple choice and identification. It also has ten
(10) questions which are worth of three (3) points for every correct answer.

c. The DIFFICULT round is identification. It has seven (10) questions which is worth of five
(5) points for every correct answer.

6. If there will be a tie score, a clincher round will be conducted.

7. There will be no elimination rounds. All teams will undergo the three (3) components of the
competition.

8. The questions will be read by the quiz master, twice.

9. After the quiz master reads the question twice, all teams must wait for his signal before writing
their answers. When the quiz master say “GO”, only then the teams will be allowed to write
their answers.

10. Each teams has an allotted of time to answer the questions.

a. For EASY and MODERATE round. All teams have ten (10) seconds time limit to answer
the questions.

b. For DIFFICULT round. All teams have twenty (20) seconds time limit to answer the
questions.

11. After the time limit, the quiz master will say “PAPERS UP” and all teams must stop writing and
must raise their papers.
12. The quiz master shall read and verify all the teams’ answers before telling the correct answer.

13. The team that gets the highest number of points is automatically declared the champion.

a. Team that gets the second (2nd) highest score will be the first (1st) place.

b. Team that gets the third (3rd) highest score will be the second (2nd) place.

c. Team that gets the fourth (4th) highest score will be the third (3rd) place.
SLOGAN-MAKING CONTEST

Theme: Theme: Theme: Tourism and Peace - 30 Years of Connecting People, Places, and Culture

Materials:

 Oslo paper
 Pens or markers
 Coloring materials

Mechanics:

1. One participant per bloc.


2. Only one slogan per participant.
3. It should be original and aligned with the Tourism Week theme and plagiarism will result in
disqualification.
4. The slogan should be concise, consisting of no more than 10 words.
5. Entries must be in English language.
6. Each participant must be prepared to explain their slogan in 30 seconds during the contest.

Criteria for Judging:

 Relevance to Theme (40%


How well the slogan reflects the theme of Tourism Week and promotes tourism or hospitality.
 Creativity (30%)
Originality and uniqueness of the slogan.
 Impact (20%)
The ability of the slogan to inspire and leave a lasting impression.
 Conciseness (10%)
Clear, straightforward, and to the point.
