SPEED
Example 1:
Alden covers a distance of 40 m with his
bike. If it took him 10 min. to bike the
distance, what is the speed of the bike?
Example 1:
d 40 m
S= = = 4m / min
t 10 min
the speed of the bike is 4m / min.
The unit for speed depends on the units
of distance and time. If the distance is
measured in kilometers, and time is
measured in hours, then the unit for speed
becomes kilometers per hour.
Example:
Alden covers a distance of 40 km with his
bike. If it took him 10 h to bike the distance,
what is the speed of the bike?
Example 1:
d 40 km
S= = = 4 km/hr
t 10 hr
the speed of the bike is 4 km/hr
TIME
Example 2:
Vilma walks at a speed of 5 km/hr. How
much time does he take to walk a distance
of 15 km?
Example 1:
d 15 km
t= = = 3 hr
d 5 km/hr
the time that he take is 3 hr
DISTANCE
Example 2:
Maria left home and traveled toward the
capital at an average speed of 80 km/hr. If
she reached her destination in 3hr. What
was the distance she traveled.
Example 1:
d=sxt
d = 80km/hr x 3hr
d= 240km
Example 1:
d 20 km
S= = = 10 km/hr
t 2 hr
the speed of the scooter is 10 km/hr
