Heintzeman's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

What Josh Supports

  • Opening Minnesota to jobs and business expansion through tax & regulatory reform
  • Finding real world, patient-centered solutions for the health care needs of families
  • Working with parents & teachers to empower local decision-making for our schools
  • Promoting thoughtful, independent leadership that respects our rural values[8]
—Josh Heintzeman[9]

2014

Heintzeman's website highlighted the following campaign themes:

Pro-Life 100%

Life begins at conception. As a father of 5 precious children and an active community member I believe that our future generations will continue to make this nation great. But, if we are aborting our children before they even leave the womb, not only are we committing a terrible atrocity, but we are passing along the wrong values to our future men and women.

Job Creation
As a Republican candidate, I believe we should create and maintain a competitive business environment to promote economic prosperity and once again make Minnesota the economic engine of the Upper Midwest. This business climate not only needs to have a competitive place for small-business owners to innovate and flourish, but we need to be able to attract employees and families who will be attracted to the job growth.

I know that businesses need support to grow. We have a tough economic climate and Minnesota ranks in the bottom 5 states in terms of “business friendly” climate.

Education
According to the Republican platform, “We support the belief that parents are responsible for their children’s education and that parents, teachers, and local school boards can make the best decisions about our children’s education," and I couldn't agree more.

Twin Cities schools historically receive far more funding per student than our local school districts. This is just one example of the inequalities within our state education system that needs to be addressed.

Roads and Transportation
We need to help counties repair/improve roads and I would move to devote all road- related state fees to road projects. I will work for transportation funding that keeps locally generated transportation taxes working on projects right here, rather than exporting them to the metro area.

Economics and Taxes
I stand for lower taxes and small governement that gives individuals a say in where their money is spent.

2nd Amendment Rights
I strongly value gun ownership, personal protection, and the second amendment. I believe that our right to own and bear arms shall not be infringed, period. I am a card carrying member of the NRA and my wife and I both have our conceal and carry permits in MN.

Marriage
Marriage - is a fundamental relationship between one man & one woman.

Seniors
While we most often think of securing a future for our children, our senior community must also be carefully considered. We must make sure our community members remain secure throughout their golden years. The promises made to our senior citizens and veterans must be fulfilled.[10][8]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Minnesota

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
