13 Bible Verses about Adultery

And the scribes and the Pharisees bring to Him a woman taken in adultery; and, having placed her in the midst, they say to Him, "Teacher, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such; what, therefore, dost Thou say?"

"Ye heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery;'

And I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except for fornication, and shall marry another, commits adultery."

He says to Him, "Which?" And Jesus said, "You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness;

Owe no one anything, but to love one another; for he that loves another has fulfilled the law. For this, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not kill," "You shall not steal," "You shall not covet;" and, if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

And I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except for fornication, and shall marry another, commits adultery."

"And it was said, 'Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement;' but I say to you, that every one who puts away his wife, except on account of fornication, makes her commit adultery: and whosoever marries her when put away commits adultery.

And He saith to them, "Whosoever puts away his wife, and marries another, commits adultery against her; and, if she herself, having put away her husband, marries another, she commits adultery."

"Every one who puts away his wife, and marries another, commits adultery; and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband, commits adultery.

Or, are ye ignorant, brethren, (for I am speaking to those who know law), that the law has dominion over the man as long as he lives? For the married woman has been bound by law to the living husband; but, if the husband dies, she is loosed from the law of the husband. So, then, if, while the husband is living, she is married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress; but, if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she be joined to another man.

For Herod, having laid hold of John, bound him, and put him in prison, because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife. For John said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her."

For Herod himself, sending forth, laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison, for the sake of Herodias the wife of Philip, his brother, because he married her. For John said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife."

but Herod, the tetrarch, being reproved by him concerning Herodias, the wife of his brother, and concerning all the evils which Herod did,

And Jesus, having lifted Himself up, said to her, "Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?" She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said to her, "Neither do I condemn you; go your way; henceforth sin no more."]

This, therefore, I say, and testify in the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind, being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their hearts; who, indeed, having become without feeling, delivered themselves up to lasciviousness for the working of all uncleanness with greediness.

For the time past is sufficient to have wrought the will of the gentiles, having walked in wantonness, lusts, wine-bibbings, revelings, carousings, and impious idolatries;

but I say to you, that every one who looks upon a woman, to lust after her, already committed adultery with her in his heart.

For the married woman has been bound by law to the living husband; but, if the husband dies, she is loosed from the law of the husband. So, then, if, while the husband is living, she is married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress; but, if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she be joined to another man.

The woman answered and said, "I have no husband." Jesus saith to her, "Well did you say, 'I have no husband;' for you have had five husbands, and he whom you now have is not your husband: this you have said truly."

Actually there is reported among you fornication, and such fornication as exists not even among the gentiles, that one of you should have his father's wife! And ye have become puffed up, and did not rather mourn, that he who did this deed might be taken away from you.
