Bird's nests

Bird's nests are items found primarily through Woodcutting, but also as a reward from the Managing Miscellania minigame, the Evil Tree, or from the Gnome Restaurant minigame. There are several varieties of nests, which can contain either seeds, rings, bird's eggs, wood spirits, or Imcando hatchet fragments. Upgrading the Grove cabin to tier 3 will enable the ability to find bird's nests+ and Imcando fragment nests from Woodcutting, which have improved rewards.

On 3 March 2009, a sound effect was added to bird's nests when they fall to the ground from chopping a tree, which is a bird chirping (the same sound made by a Magpie). This was later replaced with a sound resembling an impact of branches or leaves.

On 4 April 2011, with the release of Livid Farm, it was stated that the enhanced graphical trees around the Clan Camp would be 10% more likely to drop a bird's nest. This bonus does stack with a strung rabbit foot.

It is not possible to receive bird's nests if the Gnome echo (Argento's Kindness buff) at Memorial to Guthix is active; the player will instead receive divine eggs.

Types of nests

There are many varieties of bird's nests:

Obtaining

The most reliable method of obtaining bird's nests is by training Woodcutting. When cutting most trees or ivy, a bird's nest may randomly fall out next to the player on any chop attempt (successful or not). When this happens, the following messages can appear in the chatbox, depending on how upgraded the Grove cabin is:

• When the Grove is not built: You find a bird's nest.
• When the Grove is tier 1 and the player doesn't have a sign of the porter active, or at least tier 2 and the player is not carrying a wood box in their backpack and doesn't have a sign of the porter active: You find a bird's nest. You pick it up and place it in your backpack.
• When the Grove is at least tier 1 and a sign of the porter is active: You find a bird's nest. It was sent to your bank.
• When the Grove is at least tier 2 and the player is carrying a wood box and doesn't have a sign of the porter active: You find a bird's nest. You pick it up and place it in your wood box.

Bird's nests obtained from woodcutting disappear after 2 minutes if not picked up. For a list of trees that may yield bird's nests, see the drop sources listing for a particular type of bird's nest.

Due to the Lumberjack's Intuition mechanics at eternal magic trees, chopping them down actively yields bird's nests at the fastest rates. Forfeiting the buff by moving to another tree immediately after getting the guaranteed bird's nest allows the next opportunity for a guaranteed bird's nest to occur earlier.

Some equipment increases the chance of finding a bird's nest while Woodcutting. The superior tree-shaking scrimshaw increases it by 400%, and requires level 80 Woodcutting, while the regular tree-shaking scrimshaw increases it by 300%. Wearing the oaken, willow, or maple sentinel outfits increase the chance by 5%, while wearing the nature's sentinel outfit increases it by 7%. The Brooch of the Gods gives a 20% chance increase, and the Woodcutting cape and strung rabbit foot increase it by an unknown amount.

The modified farmer's hat will grant two bird's nests (cheap seeds), or four if at least 4 pieces of the outfit are owned.

Wyson the Gardener will exchange mole claws, skins, and noses for bird's nests with seeds. Note that he will exchange claws and skins for bird's nest (cheap seeds).

Managing Miscellania is another source of bird's nests, putting workers on cutting Maple Trees will allow up to eight nests a day to be obtained. Note that players are likely to receive more nests when there is more money in the kingdom coffers. 999 nests can be obtained after 112 days of 100% approval rating have passed in the kingdom. After that, no more nests can be obtained until players collect their rewards.

Bird's nests can also be received as a reward from Evil Trees and as a reward in the Gnome Restaurant minigame.
