Even when sufficient sun protection has been used during the day, the sun and still take a toll on the skin. UV-rays and high temperatures dry out the skin and can easily irritate it. In addition, salt, sand and chlorine from pools have also put a strain on the skin. An extra portion moisture is needed in order to prevent the skin from becoming dried out, flaky or even parchment-like. 

Depending on the personal preference, you can either chose an after-sun lotion, cream or gel. The thinner and lighter the consistency is, the easier the application becomes to the probably somewhat irritated skin. After-sun products usually immediately give some relief to the sun stressed skin. When the skin is really sunburnt or already shows blisters and is painful, a visit to a pharmacy is inevitable.

Why use after sun skincare?

After sun skincare products are the perfect conclusion to a long day in the sun. Even if a sunburn was prevented by the right amount of sunscreen, skin suffers from the sun. Even a normal tan is a sign for stressed skin, as the skin had to protect itself from the sun, which is why a tan developed. If it did come to slightly irritated skin, cooling after sun products help to calm down the stressed skin. Additionally, those lotions, creams and gels intensively moisturize the skin and help it to keep its elasticity, and regenerate. 

After-sun products also help to maintain a tan for a prolonged amount of time, as they take care of the skin and minimize flaking off of dry skin. If the skin is especially sensitive, it is important to choose products that are specifically tailored to the needs of sensitive skin and are, for example, formulated without perfume.
