Suncare for the skin
Who doesn’t want to enjoy healthy, radiant tanned skin? Suncare is the most important factor in order to keep skin healthy and protect it from sun damage. There is the right sun care for every skin type, with different sun protection factors and the right care to prolong a glowing summer tan.
Sun skincare is available in different textures, which protect the skin from the harmful effects of the sun. Textures range from the classic sun cream, oils, sprays and gels to lotions – all with different levels of sun protection factors (SPF). There are also products specifically developed to protect the sensitive skin of children.
What does SPF mean?
The sun protection factor written on a sun protection product states how much the time span increases that you can spend in the sun, without getting sunburnt. Each skin type has its own protection time until the skin turns red. Sunscreen helps to prolong the time until the skin gets burnt. In order to calculate the individual sun protection time, you multiply the own protection time of your skin type with the sun protection factor on the bottle of the sunscreen.
An SPF up to 10 is considered low protection, sun protection factor up to 25 is considered medium protection, from 30 it’s considered high protection and from SPF 50 it is considered very high sun protection. How long sunscreen stays effective is also depended on several other factors: sweat, water exposure, drying off with a towel and also, if enough of the product was applied initially.
Suncare after sunbathing
If the whole day is spent outside, the skin needs to be taken care of afterwards. While the focus lies on UV protection during the day, replenishing moisture and prolonging the tan is the focus in the evening. Creams and lotions that are specially developed as after-sun treatments are ideal for this purpose. In order to prolong the summer tan, self-tanning products are the solution to looking sun-kissed all year long.
