Dewi dituduh jadi PELAKOR.
Dieksekusinya cukup oke, bahkan angstynya dapet. Sayangnya, menjelang paruh akhir cerita konfliknya dibuat berbelit - belit. Gue curiganya sih, for the sake of drama aja, makanya jadi mayan gregetan. Sinetron banget!
Walau gue bilang sinet, penulisan authornya rapi dan enak dibaca. Sayangnya, walau dialog antar tokoh beberapa cukup renyah dibaca, dialog antara Dewa dan Dewi suka kadang - kadang agak kaku. Gue sampai mikir, ini gue ngomong sama orang mau sesopan apapun juga kayaknya ga bakal baku deh XD. Just a matter of preference tho.
Digadang - gadang kayak Crazy Rich Asians dan The Hating Games combined into one, mungkin ekspektasi gue udah ketinggian sejak awal buat La 3 bintang
Digadang - gadang kayak Crazy Rich Asians dan The Hating Games combined into one, mungkin ekspektasi gue udah ketinggian sejak awal buat Last Tang Standing.
Posisi paling mentereng mengingat dia udah lama jadi senior associate. Tentunya, true to its The Hating Games vibes, Andrea saingan sama Suresh Aditparan, pemuda India kasta Brahmana (emang ditulis gitu di bukunya) yang baru pindah dari London.
Mungkin menganut paham bahwa "the world is your oyster", maka Andrea punya beberapa love interest. Masalahnya, gue ngerasa bagian Andrea sama Eric tuh bosenin banget buat dibaca. Walau gue suka romansa dengan beda usia, tapi beda usianya Andrea sama Eric tuh hampir 20 tahun! Eric tuh bisa aja jadi bapaknya Andrea, bahkan beda usia Eric dan emaknya Andrea aja ga jauh2 amat. Tapi namanya juga cinta? Heh.
Mabuk dulu. Stress sama kerjaan? Mabuk lagi. Kagak sayang sama liver sendiri apa gimana deh?
Eric juga ditulis rada too good to be true walau kayaknya agak control freak juga, tapi kayak yang ya udah gitu.
Last Tang Standing cocok buat bacaan ringan dan humor-humornya pun sebenarnya menghibur.
Gue berharap bakal ketawa ngakak sampe guli 1,5 bintang
Sayangnya isinya malah termasuk mengecewakan.
Gue bukan tipe orang prudish yak. Heck, I read and eat smut in daily basis, tapi ga perlu juga sih berkali2 dibilang Sahat itu Dewa Seks. Wkwkw, cringey at so many level. Bahasan - bahasan menjurus seksual bukannya bikin gue ngakak, malah endingnya rolling eyes sampai mata hampir copot.
Walau timelinenya berkisar 8 tahun, karena ceritanya banyak lompat - lompat jadi ga berasa lamanya. Gue jujur kagum baca Minar bisa tahan banget sama Mamak Mertua yang hobi campurin urusan rumah tangga anaknya sampe ke urusan Minar punya anak. Delapan. Tahun. I'll balk in the first place. Ga perlu lah semua dialog dikasih reaksi - reaksi lebay kayak "benerin kemben", "kibas rambut" etc. Like, I know you want to be FUNNY tapi yang gue dapet malah tulisan kayak anak SMA baru lulus.
But hey, who am I to judge?...more

Well, akhirnya tibalah kita di penghujung acara.
(hide spoiler)]
Thanks Kevin Kwan for the ride and the crazy world that is Crazy Rich Asians trilogy!!...more
Ren sangat jarang baca buku terbitan lokal, bahkan rasanya juga lebih banyak baca buku versi terjemahan. Terakhir baca buku karya pengara 2,5 bintang
Ya, kalau kamu tahu Princess Diariesnya Meg Cabot mungkin langsung paham (gue sih nonton filmnya aja). Masalahnya, baru beberapa halaman gue baca, ini langsung mikir
Ini karya pengarang lokal kan? Kenapa tulisannya kaku banget kayak gue baca terjemahan? Like seriously, kakunya bahkan melebihi kakunya kanebo saat lagi kering *garuk kepala*. Apalagi ada dialog super kaku, dari salah satu tokoh, yaitu Putri Viola, like this:
"Gaun itu, kardiganmu. Keduanya bukan dari desainer terkenal, tapi kau kelihatan elegan. Bahkan serasi dengan rambut pendek cokelat tanahmu"
Cokelat tanah ya, COKELAT TANAH. LIKE, what in her serious mind will talk to her employer's hair colour with "eh rambut coklat tanahmu"???
Sewot bener Ren, masalah warna rambut doang?
Setting kerajaan Alerva ini berada diantara Prancis, Jerman, Swiss, Itali, etc, which I don't bother to check on the map, because ya, buang2 waktu aja maliiih.
On come on GR, half star rating itu penyelamat banget!). Bahkan saking perhatiannya, walau Danii kena batunya pun, Tara masih mikirin.
Oke, sebelum kita ber-rolling in the deep- ria, The Princess and The Bodyguard ini sejatinya memakai trope yang udah sering dipake.
Adele dan Julien lebih kayak yang pasangan yang hot and cold, yang you like me, you like me not.
Gue emang jadi merasa agak sesak napas pas baca buku ini, kayak pantes Adele ga mau jadi putri raja, kalau berpikir buat dirinya sendiri aja dia udah dilarang duluan sama ortunya.
...more

I just recently finish The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova that give me migraine (a good book to be honest, only too long winded) and I'm in a dire need to read some romance with humor on it. Stat!
Meg Cabot didn't disappoint in this one.
The Boy is Back is the fourth installment of Boy series. Although I read the first 3 books (Indonesian translation version) back at 2010-2011, I'm grateful to know that I don't need to reread the first 3 just for the trip down of memory lane (aka refresh it) since this one can be read as a standalone. The only similarity is the novel format. Write totally in epistolary format, this books told by e-mail, phone chat, Skype-chat, newspaper article, Facebook wall & invitation (the book written in 2016, mind you), pamphlets, blessing journal (more like diary), chat app, interview by application that apparently can transform your talk to written words (I kid you not. Is that things even exist?) and reviews about bought goods. The latest is not a joke, because I often rambling about my daily life or rants about anything that not totally connected to the books I review, lol.
The story of this book is pretty simple to be exact. Reed Stewart is a prodigal son of Stewart family, a black sheep hero that totally one of Cabot's archetype hero and Becky Flowers was his ex-girlfriend. Actually, those two seems like can't forget each other although Reed never reply Becky's email with the reason that will explained later. The one that got away (Reed) is now finally back to Bloomville, Indiana, because his parents just become an internet laughingstock. They try to paid their meal in restaurant only with stamp (I kid you not) and also become a hoarder. Reed's brother and his wife, Marshall & Carly were hysterical because Carly knew that their parents in the curb of the bankruptcy but Marshall is always in denial. So, Carly need Reed's help, but, Reed didn't know at first that Carly also ask Becky as an owner of senior relocation business to help them. And..hello old love. To said that the spark between Reed and Becky didn't rekindle as soon as they meet each other is the understatement.
The book make me laugh so hard and bordering hysterical because of the witty remarks, sarcasm or outright deadpanned humor between its characters. I always know how Cabot like to write a messed up family and of course Stewart families are messy as fuck. Although, there was a reason too behind that. This book not only about the one that got away. To be honest the romance seems to be shoved to the back burner although reading about Reed constantly quoting Jane Austens's work to woo Becky is amusing. The Boy is Back is actually about family, how to deal with our seniors and how to help them in the time of need even maybe they don't want it at the first place. Both Reece parents are hoarders and it's hard to convince them to move and dispose their collections. I like the way Cabot address this issue with her humor but also make it somehow a little bit meaningful. However, the weakness is maybe because its epistolary format, both Reed and Becky is not that fleshed out. Although we get Reed's woefully email about his predicament and Becky's frantic help to her friend because she finally accept that she still want Reed.
The Boy is Back is perfect for one sitting read, especially if you want a humorous contemporary romance with unique epistolary format that set in small town....more
Setelah re-read Crazy Rich Asians dalam rangka menyegarkan pikiran setelah nonton filmnya (YANG BANYAK BEDANYA. Silakan dilihat apa bedanya 3,5 stars
Setelah re-read Crazy Rich Asians dalam rangka menyegarkan pikiran setelah nonton filmnya (YANG BANYAK BEDANYA. Silakan dilihat apa bedanya di review Crazy Rich Asians :)) ), rasanya sayang kalau gue ga sekalian maraton dua buku sisanya di akhir minggu kemaren. Syukurlah Kevin Kwan hanya menulis CRA sebagai trilogy dan mengakhirinya dengan manis di Rich People Problems (yang akan gue review selanjutnya), but eh, who knows if he change his mind.
Jika CRA berkisar antara Rachel, Eleanor dan Astrid, well, there's new player in the town and her name is...Kitty Tai!
- Karakterisasi Peik Lin YANG SANGAT BERBEDA.
Which is, salah banyak bedanya lagi antara hubungan Eleanor dan Rachel:
Dia masih disambut dg baik. Versi filmnya emang lebay2 khas hollywood =))
(hide spoiler)]
Apakah filmnya lantas jelek?
Well, the old saying about books will always better than the movie is true, right? :))
Gue selalu ingat saat maen game Summoners War, dan tiap ada yang bisa summon natural born 5 aka monster super langka yang bikin banyak orang salty (alias iri), termasuk gue, pasti akan ada yang ngomong: "this dude must be crazy rich" "this dude must be those asian rich kid" "this dude must be those rich chinese kid"
Gue heran dong...hubungan crazy rich ma asian apaan sih? Why accused us Asians??
Lucunya, gue ga keberatan baca begitu banyak merek - merek barang mewah, nama desainer yang gue aja cuma tahu Alexander McQueen doang, nama perusahaan hi-tech, nama bilioner, nama pulau eksotis, nama artis A-Z.
First thing, itu racist. Why I must hate them tho?
Malah cenderung ditutup - tutupin.
Dan kalau kalian mikir si Kevin Kwan kebanyakan ngarang pas bikin novel ini, well, Crazy Rich itu loosely based his own family. Kevin Kwan bilang "sometimes, truth is stranger than fiction".
Either you crazy rich or not, Asians or not, mesti banget baca buku ini. Lumayan buat hiburan :P....more
What's not to love, hehehe). Cuma, bukan Heather namanya kalau ga dapat masalah. Masalahnya, sebulan lagi dia mau menikah.
Tapi Tante Meg tahu kalau "all good things must come to an end". Jadi ya udah cukup disini aja kisah Heather, hahaha.
Udah bukan third times the charm, tapi four times, wkwkwkw.
Thanks Meg Cabot and Heather Wells for the ride!! ...more

Bagi gue dengan kondisi childless (not by choice), gue terharu banget bacanya. Kayak nyess banget :').

Agak heran juga kalau bilang Adjie ini too good to be true. Soalnya childish plus posesif gitu mananya yang too good to be true? Pasangan ga jelas ini Andrea sama Adjie, berantem bahkan sampai mau akad nikah. SINETRON.BANGET *rolling eyes*. Mending batalin aja deh nikahnya, kalau drama mulu.
Yah, agak out of context deh.
Nama brand..
Sinopsisnya tuh rada misleading, terutama bagian calon mertua perfeksionis. Plus gambaran Andrea sebelum ketemu bonyoknya Adjie, sumpah ga lucu menurutku.
Bye, bye, Ika's books.
Siapa dia? Well kudu baca bukunya dong :D
Sayangnya lagi, GPU ini emang suka deh nerbitin buku ngga lengkap. Udah yang diterbitin buku ketiga duluan (Till Death Do Us Apart - Sampai Maut Memisahkan Kita), buku yang pertama, If Looks Could Kill malah ngga diterbitin. Belum lagi terjemahannya yang bikin kepala rada senut - senut. Untungnya sih, beli ini murah banget, cuma 10ribu rupiah. Jadi ga rugi - rugi amat lah ya :D
Gue ga yakin mau temenan sama Sarah dikehidupan nyata, lol.
Ya tiba - tiba saja, like "cling!". (hide spoiler)]. Walau ini semacam plot device yang (kayaknya) sering dipakai di banyak novel - novel tema serupa, I kid you not. Jangan coba - coba menghadapi pelaku pembunuhan sendiri. Tanpa bala bantuan. Jadilah seperti Kindaichi/Conan/Sherlock/Poirot saat menyudutkan pelaku, di hadapan banyak orang tentunya. Bukannya main jadi jagoan.
Yang penasaran sama hubungan Heather - Cooper, akhirnya, the ship is SAILING. Terus gimana nasib Tad? Ya ga gimana - gimana, gue ga akan terlalu spoiler kenapa Heather akhirnya ga jadi sama Tad, tapi alasan Cooper cemburu juga lucu sih. Ni cowok berlagak cool selama dua buku pertama, tapi endingnya dia ga sanggup juga lihat Heather sama cowok lain :P. Yang penting, love is in the air.
Tapi ternyata masih ada lanjutannya di Size 12 and Ready to Rocks yang ditulis 5 tahun kemudian setelah Big Boned terbit (edisi aslinya terbit tahun 2007, Size 12 and Ready to Rocks tahun 2012). Gue sih ga keberatan buat baca "antik"nya si Heather, karena kalau urusan humor dan sarkasme, Tante Cabot emang juaranya <3. ...more
