It's a very dark novel, with quite a lot of gore, too, so if you don't like this, you should probably steer clear of it. Definitely fantasy though, not horror. A little too action-packed at times, especially in the end – it seemed over the top. It was a solid 5 stars in the first part, then the similarities with the books I mentioned in the spoiler bothered me too much. I was even thinking 3 stars by the end, but I gave it 4 because it was very entertaining. It didn't feel like a 600+ pages chunkster at all....more

Non mancano le parti divertenti e/o argute come nel primo libro della serie. In fin dei conti Harry Dresden non è un personaggio simpaticissimo, ma le sue avventure sono decisamente intriganti. Interessante la spiegazione dei vari tipi di lupo mannaro (licantropi, loups garous, Hexenwolfen...). Promosso nonostante lo splatter e non vedo l'ora di proseguire con la serie....more

Una città è divisa in due, da una parte c'è un'etnia e dall'altra un'altra etnia (chiaramente i bianchi e i neri): a dividerla in due è la ferrovia dove passa quello che è il treno dei morti, dove vanno le persone una volta morte, ma solo per una delle due etnie. Chiaramente un libro sul colonialismo, sarebbe potuto essere molto interessante: sviluppare il tema del colonialismo e dell'oppressione dei bianchi sui neri attraverso un linguaggio "speculativo" (nel senso di speculative fiction). Tuttavia lo stile e la storia sono (per me) troppo surreali, troppo onirici, troppo poetici. Il che ovviamente può essere un pregio per qualcuno, ma per me è risultato solo un tentativo di essere poetico a tutti i costi, anche a scapito della comprensibilità del testo.

Ho amato i primi tre libri della serie ma questo l'ho trovato un po' più debole. Atticus è in fuga dopo aver seminato il caos ad Asgard e all'inizio del libro lo troviamo a fingere la sua morte. Di seguito continua a scappare, finché Coyote non gli chiede di aiutarlo e si trova ad affrontare due skinwalkers (non so come lo abbiano tradotto in italiano) che terrorizzano i Diné (Navajo) di una riserva in Arizona. La parte in cui affronta questi esseri è un po' meglio, per il resto l'ho trovato abbastanza noioso. Sono comunque curiosa di sapere cosa succederà dopo ai nostri eroi, quindi proseguirò con la serie, ma magari senza fretta....more
