The document analyzes pipe supports and calculates reactions for vessels V1991 and V1992 with different pipe sizes. STAAD modeling and analysis is performed to calculate maximum reactions at intermediate and dished end supports under different load combinations.

The scope of the calculation report is to analyze the structure of pipe and its supporting members to get maximum shear which is transferred to the vessel shell. Supports for pipe are arranged such that maximum load transferred in vessel shell shall not be greater than 300N/cm.

Vessels TAG - V1991 and V1992 are analyzed. For V1991, the pipe ID is 570mm and thickness is 8mm. For V1992, the pipe ID is 999mm and thickness is 8mm.

1.0 GENERAL

1.1 Scope of the Calculation Report

The proposed structure of pipe and its supports will be part of petroleum vessel located in Abu
Dhabi. The structure of Pipe and its supporting members are analyzed to get maximum shear
which is transfer to vessel shell. Supports for pipe are arranged in such a way that maximum

Maximum Reaction at Intermediate pipe support = 0.742 kN

Maximum Reaction at Dished end = 7.472 kN

a) Intermediate Pipe Support:-

Minimum Channel 150 x75 is used as support for pipe as in fig. and that channel is
supported by cleat chair. Maximum shear to be resisted by 2-20dia bolt is 0.0742 kN

Shear value for 1 bolt = 64.3 kN (8.8 Grade)

As for 8.8 Grade bolt Allowable shear stress = 800x0.8x0.4 = 256 N/mm2
Hence for 20mm dia bolt can resist (256x314x0.8) = 64.3 kN shear.
Hence 2 bolts are sufficient
(This Shear is Vertical force; Bolts are checked for that vertical force which is
conservative design)

Shear Resistance of Cleat chair:-

For full penetration weld, then Length of weld (Vertical) = 158+158 +158+158
=632mm = 63.2cm . (as Cleat is having 2 -158deep vertical plates)
The capacity of full penetration weld (given by Client) = 300 N/cm.
Doc No:XXX
ANALYSIS OF PIPE SUPPORT AND CALCULATION OF REACTION Rev No: 2
Page 7 of 11

Hence shear resisted by Cleat = 62.3 x300 = 18690 N =18.69 kN. >0.742 kN

Hence for V1991 pipe one Channel 150 x75 is sufficient... hence OK
b) Dished end Pipe Support:-
200 mm deep plate is used to support at dished end.
Maximum Length of weld (Vertical) = 200+200 =400 mm = 40 cm.
The capacity of full penetration weld (given) = 300 N/cm.

Hence shear resisted by Plate = 40 x300 = 12000 N = 12 kN. > 7.47 kN... hence OK
LIQUID THRUST CAUSES SHEARING FOR THE
BOLTS ON THE DISHED END SUPPORT. VENDOR

2.2 Dead Load and fluid load V1992

Dead loads shall consist of self weight of the pipe
b) For V1992 vessel =

Pipe ID = 999mm and thk =8mm

Hence wt of pipe = 198kg/m

Maximum Reaction at Intermediate pipe support = 3.40 kN

Maximum Reaction at Dished end = 33.260 kN

c) Intermediate Pipe Support:-

If minimum Channel 150 x75 is used for support then for full penetration weld, then
Length of weld ( Vertical) = 150+150 =300 mm = 30 cm .
The capacity of full penetration weld (given by Client) = 300 N/cm.

Hence shear resisted by Channel 150 x75 = 30 x300 = 9000 N = 9 kN. >3.46 kN

Hence for V1992 pipe one Channel 150 x75 is sufficient ... hence OK

d) Dished end Pipe Support:-

600 mm deep plate is used to support at dished end.
Maximum Length of weld (Vertical) = 600+600 =1200 mm = 120cm.
The capacity of full penetration weld (given) = 300 N/cm.

Hence shear resisted by Plate = 120 x300 = 36000 N = 36kN. > 33.260 kN ... hence OK
