Another time to prove that in writing essay we need to have a better clarification and a solid proof
to support the study that we are going to add in this paper, for me to be able to have this clarify I
think I need to be better at researching text that has facts proofs and basis, so the question is
cognitive psychology important to our daily lives, this is the concern that I want to solve within
this paper so let’s find out.
Cognitive psychology plays an important role in understanding the processes of memory, attention,
and learning. It can also provide insights into cognitive conditions that may affect how people
function. Being diagnosed with a brain or cognitive health problem can be daunting, but it is
important to remember that you are not alone. Together with a healthcare provider, you can come
up with an effective treatment plan to help address brain health and cognitive problems. Ulric
Neisser is considered the founder of cognitive psychology. He was the first to introduce the term
and to define the field of cognitive psychology. His primary interests were in the areas of
perception and memory, but he suggested that all aspects of human thought and behavior were
relevant to the study of cognition. (Parvin,2012)
In 1986, while teaching at Emory, Neisser conducted a famous experiment that centered on the
space shuttle Challenger explosion. The day following the tragedy, he asked students to write down
their impressions immediately after hearing the news; then, almost three years later, he had them
perform the same exercise again. Most of the accounts were remarkably different supporting
Neisser's theory that the mind distorts and reshapes the past, drawing on layered memories rather
than actual events. (Parvin,2012)
If you ask the average person or even a psychologist if they have experienced a stressful situation
they inevitably will say yes. In reality there are no stressful situations. Saying, thinking and
believing there are becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. They aren't stressful situations but you will
feel stressed out of your illogical, irrational, uncritical thinking believing what you thought was
true. People are under the misconception that hundreds or even thousands of things they believe
are true when they aren't. Beliefs by definition can never be true as they can't be proved. A belief
is merely faith, trust or blind acceptance without proof.
This is just one example of seeing your world with new eyes and being able to eventually control
your emotions at all times. (Weseloh, 2021)
Cognitive psychology is very useful for the applied sciences, particularly with reference to
ergonomics. (Jimmy Y. Zhong cognitive psychology researcher) research deals with
understanding the different types of spatial reasoning or strategies different people employ when
moving about in familiar and unfamiliar environments. The knowledge garnered would greatly
inform the future design of devices and hardware that suit the navigational styles of different
individuals. Utilizing devices that suit our style of reasoning and thinking styles would ultimately
enhance human performance in tasks that we perform on a routine basis.
Because cognitive psychology focuses on how people think and process information, you shouldn't
be surprised to learn that there are many cognitive psychology examples in everyday life.
Sometimes a person's cognitive processing systems get overloaded. When that happens, it becomes
necessary to focus one's attention on certain things, selecting information to process further. This
deals with how and why performance improves with attention. cognitive psychology focuses on
the human ability to organize experiences into categories. How a person responds to stimuli can
result from the information being sorted into a category. Response to stimulus is determined by
the relevant category and the person's knowledge associated with that particular category.
Cognitive psychology can be applied in many ways. It serves many purposes within the field of
psychology, all of which can be beneficial to mental health professionals who use cognitive
psychology in their practices and the people they strive to help. moral development this includes
how moral dilemmas change a person's moral reasoning based on where the individual is in the
stages of moral development. Cognitive psychologists often incorporate Kohlberg's stages of
moral development into their work with patients, Cognitive psychology can explain how a
witness's testimony is affected by stress or leading questions, as well as how focusing on a weapon
or receiving incomplete information can alter a person's perception of what they witnessed.
Humans have a limited capacity for paying attention. This aspect of cognitive psychology
considers how humans select the stimuli to which they will pay attention. Psychologists can use
this to help people learn how to focus on key aspects of scenarios to focus on while tuning out
irrelevant information. (Mary Gormandy White, M.A. 2021)
Even being able to recognize another person's face requires cognitive processing. Cognitive
psychology can help explain how it's possible to still recognize someone's face even if certain
aspects have changed, such as the person growing older, wearing or not wearing makeup, adding
or removing glasses, or being framed by a different hairstyle.
Learning styles are not the only way cognitive psychology can help lead to more effective learning.
Teachers apply principles of how people perceive, pay attention to, organize, understand, learn,
and remember information in everything that they do.
According to the studies of these amazing persons it is really true that we are using cognitive
psychology in the daily basis of life.
