Candidate Connection

Amy Cann participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on September 6, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Amy Cann's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

More education funding for our public schools, stronger resources against the distribution and sale of illegal opiates, and clean air and clean water initiatives.[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

While there are many important topics, I believe our investment in education and our environment are essential to our quality of life and our future in New Hampshire. Without a strong, skilled workforce, our economy suffers as we cannot attract nor retain businesses in our state, and without clean air and water, our people and wildlife suffer, which also drives people, including tourists, out of our state.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Amy Cann answered the following:

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow and why?

I admire the intelligence, integrity, contemplation, leadership, and humility of President Obama.[3]
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else that best describes your political philosophy?
I will need to put more thought into this question as nothing specific comes to mind.[3]
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Honesty, open-mindedness, and a desire to make the world a better place for ourselves, our families, and our future generations.[3]
What qualities do you possess that would make you a successful officeholder?
I believe we all have a responsibility to be good citizens - to be responsible for our actions, to make a positive impact, and do the right thing even if no one is watching. My background in business, in education, in volunteering, in advocacy, and as a parent provides a realistic perspective and strong experience to balance the needs of our economy, our environment, and our citizens for the mutual benefit of New Hampshire.[3]
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
The core responsibilities are to represent the interests of the people and our state to the best of our ability, to be fair, honest, and just, to be educated on the issues, and make the hard decisions for the right reasons.[3]
What legacy would you like to leave?
A positive landscape of stronger educational systems, a safer community, and a healthy environment for us all.[3]
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at that time?
The Challenger explosion comes to mind in 1986 when I was sitting in my 8th grade classroom with my fellow students and we were all watching the liftoff on television. Years later, I learned that it could have been avoided if the message of the defective o-rings had just been conveyed in the right way to the right people at the right time. That reminds me how we all have a responsibility to act and be heard for the greater good of society.[3]
