The sawmill is a type of workbench that can be found within Fort Forinthry inside of the Workshop. It allows the player to process logs into planks and planks into refined planks. Connected to the left side of the sawmill is the woodworking bench. This allows for further processing of refined planks into timber frames. These are materials used for the construction around Fort Forinthry.

Unlike most other methods, converting logs to planks via this sawmill is free, and awards a small amount of experience in Construction for doing so. However, instead of processing the entire backpack instantly, logs are processed one at a time.

Planks stored inside the plank box can be used to construct refined planks.

The usual variant in Fort Forinthry does not requires the quest New Foundations to interact. The variant seen in Murder on the Border can't be interacted with other than examining it.

Profit and experience rates

Planks are created at a rate of 2 ticks (1.2 seconds). Taking banking times into account, an output of roughly 2800 planks made per hour can be expected. Refined planks are created at a rate of 4 ticks (2.4 seconds). Taking banking times into account, an output of roughly 1400 refined planks made per hour can be expected when made from planks.

If processing from 28 logs to refined planks it takes 84 ticks (50.4 seconds) creating 28 planks and turning them into 7 refined planks. With banking time this should be around 1920 planks made and turned into 480 refined planks per hour. This would make magic logs being turned into refined planks around 69,600 base xp/hr.
