I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

a. State the meaning of scopes and limitation of the study;
b. Differentiate limitation from delimitation; and
c. Write the scope and limitations of their study.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Scope and Limitation of the Study

B. Reference: PRACTICAL RESEARCH 2 ON QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH

C. Materials: Visual Aids, Whiteboard Marker

III. LEARNING PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of classroom atmosphere

B. Review
The teacher will ask one student his group’s research title and have his leader or any
groupmate validate his answer to see if he cooperated in making the title.

C. Lesson Proper
The teacher will proceed to the lesson about the scope and limitation of the study.

The scope and limitations are very important to the nature of the study. As the research
begins with the problem statement and purpose statement outlining the reason and direction
of the study, it must also include the limitations. The scope and limitation of the study should
include the following:

1. A brief statement of the general purpose of the study.

2. The subject matter and topics studied and discussed.
3. The locale of the study, where the data were gathered.
4. The population from which the respondents were selected.
5. A limitation in the scope and validity of the survey instrument.
6. Limitations to your choice of methodology.
7. The period of the study during which the data were gathered.

There is often confusion between delimitation and limitation.

LIMITATIONS are those elements that may limit what you can say about the results.
They are the elements that will affect the ability for your study to generalize the results. These
can get in the way of answering certain questions.

DELIMITATIONS are often strongly related to the theory and research questions.
These are simply a detailed description of the scope of interest of the study as it relates to the
research design.

D. Application

The teacher will let the students go their group for the students to write the scope and
limitation of their research.

E. Generalization

Why is it important to write the scope and limitation of the research?

.
F Values Integration

The students will learn to cooperate with their group writing the needed part of their
research.

IV. EVALUATION

The students will write the scope and limitation of their research and submit it to the
teacher for checking.
