III. PROCEDURE
TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES
A. Routinary Activities
 Greetings

Good morning class! Good morning, ma’am.

How are you today? We are all good, ma’am.

 Prayer
Please everybody standup and let us pray. Lead Let us bow our head and feel the presence of
the prayer, Jane. the Lord.
Our Father in heaven, holy be thy name, thy
kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it
is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive
those who trespass against us. Do not bring us
to the test but deliver us from evil, Amen.
 Checking of attendance

Who is absent today? None, ma’am.

Very good.
B. Review of the Past Lesson

What was our topic last week? About Measures of Central Tendency ma’am.
Very good. What is Measure of Central Tendency,
Joan? Ma’am measure of central tendency is a single
value that attempts to describe a set of data by
identifying the central position within that set
of data. the three most common measures of
central tendency are mean, median, and mode
That is right! Now, will you enumerate the 3
measures of Tendency, Jeremiah.
The 3 measures of tendency are Mean, Median
and Mode, ma’am.
Correct!
C. Motivation
Before we proceed to our lesson. Let’s have a
game called “number game”.

I will group you in to two groups. I have prepared

a printed number here from 0-9. (The learners are listening).

Mechanics of the game:

Select a leader. The leader will assign 10 members
to represent the numbers 0-9. I'll give you a
number, such as 1678. The leader will arrange
their members into the number 1678.
The first team to finish first receives one point. Yes, ma’am.
Do you get it, class?

Arrange yourself into, 1576.

(The learners arranged themselves into the
2,874 given number).

participate to our lesson. Am I right, class?
D. Lesson Proper
Our first lesson for 4th quarter is Measures of
Position. (Quartiles, Deciles and Percentile of
Ungrouped data)

What is Measures of Position, Mark? -It is a number that tell where the score stands
relative to the others in a set of data and it can
be applied to ordinal variables.

Thank you, Mark. In computing the measures of

Position of Ungrouped data, we were using the
Linear Interpolation Method. Kindly read its
definition, Kyle. Linear Interpolation is a simple technique used
to estimate unknown values that lie between
known values
Thank you, Kyle. We have 3 common measures of
Position, the Quartile, Decile and Percentile.

Kindly read the definition of Quartile, Stephen.

Quartiles are the score points which divide a

This is the Q3.

The Upper
Quartile or the
75% of the
distribution.

Do you understand, class? Yes, ma’am.

Now, let us proceed to Deciles. Please read,

Franklin.
Deciles These are score the points which divide
a distribution into four (4) equal parts.

Thank you, Franklin. Class, all eyes on the board.

Q3=P75

Do you get it, class?

Alright. Let us go back to Quartiles.

We have here an example. Please read, Michelle.

Yes, ma’am.

Thank you, Michelle. To find the quartiles 1, 2 A grouped of students obtained the following
and 3, we will use the formula: score in statistics quiz:
4,8,9,12,7,15,14,6,10,11. Find the Q1, Q2, and
k Q3.
Qk = (n+1)
4

Step 1: Arrange the data.

4,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,14,15

Step 2: Find the sample space

N=10

Step 3: Solve for the quartiles

1
Q1= (n+1)
4

Q1=0.25 (10+1)

Q1=0.25 (11)
(The learners are listening).
Q1=2.75

Step 4: If the answer has a decimal value, use the

Interpolate Method.

So, we have,

Q1=¿ 2nd+0.75(3rd - 2nd)

Q 1=6 +0.75(6-5)

Q 1=6 +0.75(1) (The learners are listening).

Q1=6.75

The lower quartile is located at 2.75 data which is

6.75.

If we are going to see our data, there are two

students scored lower than 25%.

Do you get it class?

Yes, ma’am
Now, can you solve for the Median or Q2,
Supremo?
2
Q2= (10+1)
4

Q1=0.5 (11)

Q1=5.5

Interpolate:

Q2=5 th+0.5(6th – 5th)

Q2=9+0.5(10 – 9)

Q2=9+0.5(1)

Q2=9.5

Vey good, Supremo. Now, solve for Quartile 3, The Median or the 2nd quartile is located at 5.5
Keisha. data which is 9.5. Hence, there are 5 students
scored lower than 50%, ma’am.

3
Q3= (10+1)
4

Q3=0.75(11)

Q3=8.25

Interpolate:
Q3=12+0.25(14 – 12)

Q3=12+0.25 (2)

Q3=12+0.5

Q3=12.5
That is right! Thank you, Keisha!
The Upper quartile is located at 8.5 data which
It seems like every one of you are already is 12.5. Hence, there are 8 students scored
understand and know how to solve the quartiles lower than 75%.
and ready to solve Deciles. Am I correct?

Let’s have an example. Kindly read, Myelle.

Yes, ma’am.
The step and formula to get the decile is the same
with quartiles. We will just change the letter Q
into D and the denominator will be 10.

Let us arrange the data: Find the D3, and D8 of the following set of
data: 33, 18, 24, 11, 59, 47, 61, 72.
11, 18, 24, 33, 47, 59, 61, 72, 75

D 3=2.7

Interpolate:

D 3=18+ 0.7(24−18)

D 3=18+ 0.7(6)
(The learners are listening).
D 3=18+ 4.2

D 3=22.2

The 3rd Decile is located at 2.7 which is 22.2.

Do you get it, class?

Now, solve for D8, Hanz. Yes, ma’am.

8
D 8= (8+1)

72
D 8=
10

D 8=7.2

Interpolate:

D 8=61+ 0.7(72−61)

D 8=61+ 0.7(11)
That is correct, Hanz. Thank you!
D 8=61+ 7.7
Now, we will proceed to Percentile.
D 8=68.7
Read example 1, Missly.
The 8th decile is 7.2 which is 68.7, ma’am

The step to find the percentile is the same with

Percentile and Decile. The following data are the score of Grade 10

P20 =1.8

Interpolate:

P20=9 +0.8(10-9) (The learners are listening).

P20=9 +0.8(1)

P20=9 +0.8
P20=9 .8

The 20th percentile is is located in 1.8th data which

is 9.8.

Do you get it?

Now, solve for the 50th percentile or the median,

Lance.
Yes, ma’am.

450
P50=
100

P50=4.5

Interpolate:

P50=13+0.5 (16−13)

Very good, Lance! That is correct. P50=13+0.5 (3)

P50 =13+1.5

P50=14.5

The 50th percentile is located in the 4.5 data

which is 14.5, ma’am.

E. Application

Okay, let’s have now a drill. Group yourself into
