Rune bolts are bolts fashioned from runite metal. They can be crafted from rune bolts (unf) and feathers with the Fletching skill, require 69 Fletching. They can be tipped with dragonstone or onyx bolt tips to increase their power. To tip the bolts with dragonstone, a player must have a Fletching level of 71 and use dragon bolt tips with the rune bolts, granting 8.2 Fletching experience for each dragonstone bolt tip attached and making the rune bolts into dragon bolts. To tip the bolts with onyx, a player must have a Fletching level of 73 and use onyx bolt tips with the rune bolts, granting 9.4 Fletching experience for each onyx bolt tip attached and making the rune bolts into onyx bolts. Onyx bolt tips can be obtained from killing the TzHaar, Queen Black Dragon, as well as level 4 clue scrolls.

A couple of alternatives for their use are broad-tipped bolts, which require level 55 Slayer; and kebbit bolts, which may only be used with the Hunter's crossbow.

Emerald bolts and ruby bolts are tied with rune bolts as the strongest bolts in free-to-play (diamond bolts are technically stronger, but due to non-members being restricted to rune crossbow and equivalent, are capped to the same damage). However, emerald bolts require a lower Fletching level between the two.
