The Beach was the 2024 version of the recurring The Beach event.

Getting there[edit | edit source]

The Beach

The event is in Lumbridge Crater which can be easily entered for instance using any of the following:

Skilling activities[edit | edit source]

There are various activities around the beach, which can be used to gain experience in different skills. The different activities and events will give you the opportunity to earn experience in the following skills: Construction, Cooking, Dungeoneering, Farming, Fishing, Hunter, Ranged, and Strength. Players can find strange and golden rocks for the respective skills used in each activity. Unique item tokens can also be a rare prize from any of the activities. Any of these skilling activities may be used to unlock the respective skilling pet.

The filling of a temperature gauge to the left of the screen indicates how close the player is to reaching the daily activity cap, which can be reset up to three or six times a day, depending whether a heatwave is active or not, by eating an ice cream for a total of four or seven activity caps. Players can only eat an ice cream when the thermometer is 100% full, and the daily maximum of three ice creams consumed has a soft reset at 00:00 game time.

This repeatable content has a soft reset.
The next period's content will become available only once a player has logged out and in.
Details: Daily maximum of three ice creams consumed

Every 15 minutes, a different activity is spotlighted. While an activity is spotlighted, the base experience for it is increased by 10%. The spotlighted activity differs from world to world, and there is a horn sound effect notifying when the spotlight changes. The currently spotlighted activity is shown in the event overlay, next to the temperature gauge.

Barbeques[edit | edit source]

The summer barbeque plot

Barbeques[sic] is an activity located in the north-eastern corner of the beach. It is run by Nigel. In it three grills (cooking) and three large chopping boards (preparing) can be used to gain Cooking experience. Either spot may be used without using the other; the grill is easier to track as the grill sounds stops when the interaction is completed.

Each skilling spot can be used to gain experience 9 times per interaction. Each gaining of experience takes 14 ticks (8.4 seconds), so a full interaction takes a total of 126 ticks (75.6 seconds). The experience scales according to the player's Cooking level, up to 584 Cooking experience at a time at level 99. Each time that experience is gained raises the temperature by approximately 1415%, so Barbeques may be used to gain experience 108 times before reaching 100% temperature. The following table shows some typical values for Barbeques at level 99 Cooking, assuming maximum efficiency with re-clicking the objects.

Each time experience is gained, there is approximately 775 chance to receive an item, or approximately 750 during a Happy Hour.

Body Building[edit | edit source]

The body building podiums
The body building interface

There are five body building podiums south of where Clawdia spawns; these podiums are run by two bodybuilders, Ivan and Greta. Participating in the activity gives Strength experience when doing one of the following four actions:

  • Curl
  • Lunge
  • Fly
  • Raise

There is a warning about gaining Strength experience that can be toggled off permanently. Players earn experience for each of the actions that they perform and quadruple experience can be gained by following the bodybuilders' demonstration. The correct action changes randomly; unlike at Sandcastle Building, the correct action can remain for a very short amount of time. The changes occur on average approximately every 32.8 seconds The experience gained scales with the player's Strength level, up to 39.6 Strength experience for every incorrect action and 158.4 Strength experience for correct ones at level 99. After starting working out, the player continues to work out until leaving manually. Experience is gained in 2.4-second intervals. Each incorrect action grants 115% temperature and correct ones 415%.

Incorrect actions yield items with approximately 1150 chance, or approximately 1100 during a Happy Hour. For correct actions, the chance is approximately 275, or approximately 125 during a Happy Hour.

The following table shows some typical values for Body Building at 99 Strength, assuming moderate efficiency in switching the actions.

Doing just one action 34.3 minutes 103,950 17.5
Disobeying the orders 55.9 minutes 63,746.3 10.7

While working out, the player occasionally says a short random overhead line.

Coconut Shy[edit | edit source]

The coconut shy stand

There is one coconut shy on the beach, located in the south-eastern corner and run by Sarah. It provides Ranged experience relative to the player's Ranged level. Tropical coconuts from Palm Tree Farming can also be deposited on the pile of coconuts east of Sarah for Farming experience.

The player throws balls, chinchompas, and cabbages randomly in an attempt to knock off the coconuts for a maximum of 25 times per interaction. Each attempt can cause either experience being gained, the item bouncing off the coconut or the coconut being missed. The type of object thrown doesn't affect the experience gained or the hit chance.

There is a warning about gaining Ranged experience that can be toggled off permanently.

The experience gained scales with the player's Ranged level. At level 99 Ranged, throwing an item successfully yields 396 Ranged experience. A throw takes three seconds. Each successful throw causes the temperature to rise by 23%, so 150 successful throws can be made before reaching 100% temperature. Failed throws do not cause the temperature to rise. Around 50% of the attempts are successful.

This activity can use tick manipulation to decrease the attempts to every 2.4 seconds, which increases the experience rate by 25% if done optimally.

Items are given approximately once per 15 times of gaining experience, or approximately once per 10 times during a Happy Hour.

The following table shows some typical values for Coconut Shy at level 99 Ranged, assuming maximum efficiency with restarting the throwing.

Method Experience per gauge Time to fill the gauge Items per gauge Experience per hour Items per hour
Passive throwing 59,400 15 minutes 10 237,600 40
Using tick manipulation 12 minutes 297,000 50

Dungeoneering Hole[edit | edit source]

The Dungeoneering hole at the beach

The Dungeoneering hole allows players to jump in and passively gain Dungeoneering experience every three seconds. The experience scales with the player's level in Dungeoneering, up to 192 base experience per action at level 120. The player will randomly receive messages relating to their dungeoneering "progress" within the hole. After gaining experience 25 times, the player jumps back out of the hole, with a game message saying that they have completed 20 floors and it's time for a break. Every instance of experience gain while inside the Dungeoneering hole raises the temperature gauge by 13%. Experience is given in three-second intervals. With maximal efficiency when restarting the dungeoneering, it takes approximately 16 minutes for a full bar.

The following table shows some typical values for the Dungeoneering Hole at level 120 Dungeoneering, assuming maximum efficiency with restarting the dungeoneering, taking 7.2 seconds without gaining experience between the sets.

This activity yields items approximately once per 30 times of gaining experience, or approximately once per 20 times during a Happy Hour.

Experience per gauge Time to fill the gauge Items per gauge Experience per hour Items per hour
57,600 15.8 minutes 10 219,181.8 37.9

Having the A Hole in One buff active improves the base experience gained from this activity, triples the duration spent in the hole per interaction, and prevents the temperature from increasing during this activity.

Hook a Duck (m)[edit | edit source]

The Hook-a-Duck stand

Hook a Duck is run by Sarah. In it the player uses a rod at the booth and gains experience in Hunter for every successfully hooked duck. The experience gained scales by the player's level in Hunter.

The player attempts to catch a duck for a maximum of 21 times per interaction. Each attempt can cause either experience being gained, the duck slipping away, or the duck being missed.

At level 99 Hunter, catching a duck successfully yields 492.9 Hunter experience. Each attempt takes 3.6 seconds. Each successful attempt causes the temperature to rise by 0.8%, meaning that 125 successful attempts can be made before reaching 100% temperature. Failed attempts do not cause the temperature to rise. Approximately 50% of the attempts are successful.

This activity can use tick manipulation to decrease the attempts to every 2.4 seconds, which increases the experience rate by 1.5 times if done optimally. This places this activity on par or greater than other Hunter training methods at the relevant skill levels.

This activity yields items with approximately 225 chance when gaining experience, or with approximately 325 chance during a Happy Hour.

Method Experience per gauge Time to fill the gauge Items per gauge Experience per hour Items per hour
Passive catching 61,612.5 15 minutes 10 246,450 40
Using tick manipulation 10 minutes 369,675 60

Having the Ugly Duckling buff active improves the base experience and prevents the temperature from increasing during this activity.

Palm Tree Farming (m)[edit | edit source]

There are 15 palm trees with pickable tropical coconuts found around the beach, grown by Palmer. The coconuts can be picked for Farming experience. The experience gained scaled with the player's Farming level, up to 64 at level 120 Farming.

Picking a coconut takes 1.8 seconds. After a random amount of coconuts picked the tree becomes depleted for a while. Each coconut picked causes the temperature to rise by 15%, so 500 coconuts can be picked before reaching 100% temperature.

Additional Farming experience can be gained by depositing the tropical coconuts in the pile of coconuts east of Sarah, by the coconut shies. Each deposited coconut gives a quarter of the experience given for picking them, up to 16 at 120 Farming. This doesn't increase the temperature and you can thus get the experience for depositing coconuts after having filled the temperature gauge.

The palm tree next to Reyna has a "Read palm" option after becoming depleted so that the relevant Sandy Clue Scroll can be completed even if the tree is depleted.

This activity yields items with approximately 150 chance when gaining experience, or with approximately 3100 chance during a Happy Hour.

The following table shows some typical values for Palm Tree Farming at 120 Farming with moderate efficiency in switching the trees when needed.

Method Experience per gauge Time to fill the gauge Items per gauge Experience per hour Items per hour
Depositing the coconuts 40,000 21.7 minutes 10 110,599.1 27.6
Dropping the coconuts 32,000 17.1 minutes 112,280.7 35.1

Both picking and depositing the tropical coconuts enjoy the same experience boosts such as Palm Tree Farming being the current target of a Happy Hour.

Having the Palmer Farmer buff active improves the base experience gained from picking the tropical coconuts, prevents the palm trees from depleting, and prevents the temperature from increasing during this activity.

Farming urns do not fill when participating in this activity and will therefore not boost the experience gains.

Rock Pools[edit | edit source]

The rock pool fishing spot with toy pirate battleships in the water

The rock pools can be found on the east side of the beach, overseen by Wellington. Raw tropical trout can be caught here from the four fishing spots for Fishing experience. The experience gained scales with the player's Fishing level. At level 99 Fishing, 287.2 Fishing experience is gained for each trout caught. Further Fishing experience can be gained by handing in the raw trout to Wellington, or by depositing it at the table north of Nigel, by the grills. This gives a quarter of the experience received when catching the trouts (71.8 Fishing experience at level 99 Fishing).

Toy pirate battleships can also be found here, to fight toy royal battleships, earning the player Construction experience. Toy pirate battleships will always defeat the player's own ship.

Players are able to obtain Bubbles, the Fishing pet drop from this activity. Fish caught at the rock pools will not be transported to the bank by sign of the porter or the Golden Consignment buff, but the Fortune and Imp Souled perks will bank fish if they are installed on the player's wielded fishing rod.

Players can gain 100,000 experience an hour at the Rock Pool activity with level 50 Fishing and usage of decorated fishing urns, scaling up to over 150,000 experience an hour at level 98 Fishing. 94 trouts can be fished before reaching 100% temperature, with each trout contributing 1615%. Trouts consumed by the Furnace perk don't contribute to the temperature. Unlike with many other activities, the time it takes to completely fill the temperature bar varies slightly due to the random nature of Fishing; sometimes the bar can be filled in 14 minutes of active fishing or less. Handing in or depositing the fish at the table does not increase the temperature and can thus be done even after reaching the maximum temperature.

This activity yields items with approximately 875 chance when gaining experience, or with approximately 425 chance during a Happy Hour.

The following table shows some typical values for Rock Pool Fishing at 99 Fishing, assuming moderate efficiency in switching the spots and handing in the fish.

Method Experience per gauge Time to fill the gauge Items per gauge Experience per hour Items per hour
Handing in the fish 33,746.0 13.2 minutes 10 153,390.9 45.6
Dropping the fish 26,996.8 12.8 minutes 126,547.5 47

If a fish mask is worn while luring the tropical trout, Reyna compliments the player instead of the fish.

Both catching and handing in or depositing the fish enjoy the same experience boosts such as Rock Pools being the current target of a Happy Hour.

Having the Fishermans Friend buff active improves the base experience gained from catching the raw tropical trout and prevents the temperature from increasing during this activity.

Sandcastle Building (m)[edit | edit source]

Sandcastle building area, with four buildings in progress

Foreman George runs the sandcastle building, located in the north-western corner of the beach. Building the sandcastles rewards Construction experience scaling with the player's Construction level. Players can build the corresponding tower to the current NPC guest to earn double experience. The NPC guest will spawn just south of Foreman George and will change every 2.5 minutes.

Players will automatically stop shoveling when they tire out after 25 scoops of sand. For each scoop at the incorrect location with level 99 Construction, 55 Construction experience is awarded, and building the correct sandcastle awards 110.1. One scoop takes three seconds. Scoops at either the correct or incorrect sandcastle cause the temperature to rise by 13%, so 300 scoops can be made before reaching 100% temperature.

Each sandcastle model has four different states and players can work together to advance the states. One state requires a total of 250 scoops of sand. Once a sandcastle has remained in a state long enough, it collapses to its unbuilt state but retains the progress to the next state.

The following table shows which sandcastle is the correct one to build for a guest who is just south of Foreman George.

Sandcastle NPC
Lumbridge Sandcastle Duke Horacio
Sand Exchange Sally the Grand Exchange clerk
Sand Pyramid Ozan
Wizards' Sandtower Archmage Sedridor

This activity yields items approximately once per 30 times of gaining experience, or approximately once per 20 times during a Happy Hour.

The following table shows some typical values for Sandcastle Building at 99 Construction, assuming moderate efficiency in switching the spots and restarting the building.

Method Experience per gauge Time to fill the gauge Items per gauge Experience per hour Items per hour
Building correct sandcastles 33,030 16.1 minutes 10 123,093.2 37.3
Staying at one sandcastle 20,632.5 15 minutes 82,530 40
Building incorrect sandcastles 16,500 15.6 minutes 63,461.5 38.5

Having the George's Peach Delight buff active improves the base experience gained, triples the number of times the player can shovel before being interrupted, and prevents the temperature from increasing during this activity.

Construction experience[edit | edit source]

Based on the time it takes to fill the temp bar building the correct sandcastle and the number of correct scoops to fill the bar (300 scoops per 16.1 minutes), you can scoop about 1,118 times per hour. Multiplying that by your experience per tick will give you the approximate experience per hour.

Clawdia[edit | edit source]

This is a safe activity.
If you die, you will not lose any of your items.
Clawdia fighting the players

Clawdia is an hourly boss who emerges from the water-filled hole in the middle of the crater 45 minutes after every hour. This is indicated by rain falling at the beach. She is level 250 and has up to 10,000,000 life points, scaling with the number of participating players. She deals damage scaling to the player's level and life points. If Clawdia retreats before being killed (after five minutes), participating players will obtain loot, but no killcount for unlocking rewards.

Upon defeat, Clawdia rewards all players who participated in the battle. Fighting Clawdia does not increase the temperature gauge and she can thus still be fought for rewards even if the temperature gauge is full. Killing Clawdia does not award combat or equipment experience.

As a new addition for this year, Clawdia can drop Clawdia's shell clippings, which can be inspected to unlock the Clawdie pet.

Deathtouched darts cannot be used to kill Clawdia.[1]

Sandy Clue Scrolls[edit | edit source]

Reyna's stage

Players may right-click Reyna to request a Sandy Clue Scroll. This event is similar to completing Treasure Trails with a unique set of various clues. A new trail becomes available each day, and any missed days' trails may be completed retroactively.

A list of possible clues can be found on the Sandy Clue Scroll article.

Events[edit | edit source]

Happy Hour[edit | edit source]

A "Happy Hour" is a scheduled set time which makes every activity a spotlight plot (making them yield 10% additional base experience), allows players to participate in the activities without the temperature gauge increasing, and increases the chance to receive items from activities by approximately 50%.

Because the temperature gauge is frozen, players can continue skilling even if they had previously capped both ice cream and temperature for the day.

Happy Hours occur daily at 01:00, 09:00, 14:00, 16:30, and 21:00 UTC (game time) on all worlds simultaneously, and last for 60 minutes at a time.

During Happy Hours, Ironman Mode players will receive 50% less experience while skilling with a full temperature gauge.

Heatwave[edit | edit source]

Every weekend a heatwave will occur. Heatwaves last from 12:00 UTC on Friday until 12:00 UTC on Monday. During a heatwave players will be able to keep training their skills regardless of the thermometer for the entire duration of the heatwave. Logging in or reaching maximum temperature during a heatwave displays the following message: It's a scorcher! Your temperature bar is off the scale. You can carry on though during the heatwave!

While eating the ice cream is not required to continue with the activities during the heatwave, it is still possible to eat it at full thermometer. During the heatwave the daily limit for eating ice cream is increased to six, excluding Ironman Mode players.

During a heatwave, Ironman Mode players will receive 50% less experience while skilling with a full temperature gauge.

Portals[edit | edit source]

The south-western corner features several Distraction and Diversion and location portals, which can be entered to teleport the player to the corresponding Distraction and Diversion or location. The lifeguards announce which Distraction and Diversion activities are active on the player's world.

The portals featured are the following:

When entering the Shooting Star portal and the world's current Shooting Star is in the Wilderness, players will be given a warning before teleporting there.

Shops[edit | edit source]

Cosmetic Item Shop[edit | edit source]

The Cosmetic Item Shop is a shop run by Sheldon where players can buy tokens to unlock cosmetic overrides of beach-related items with oddments. Sheldon can be found at the northern end of the beach.

Gill's Fun Emporium[edit | edit source]

Gill's Fun Emporium is a shop where players can buy tokens to unlock beach-related follower and companion pets, animation overrides, emotes, and miscellaneous fun items with oddments. It is run by Gill, who can be found west of the bank chest near the western entrance to the beach.

New Item Shop[edit | edit source]

The New Item Shop is a shop that sells newly released beach-related items for RuneCoins. It is run by Flo, and can be found at the southern end of the beach.

Other features[edit | edit source]

A bank chest can be found south of the Sandcastle Building area.

7 deck chairs are scattered around the beach for the player to sit on, and 2 peep boards can be found in the northern part of the beach.

3 toy pirate battleships can be found in the Rock Pools.

During the event, players can use a spade to dig up little toy ducks.

Rewards[edit | edit source]

Random[edit | edit source]

The following items can be earned randomly from the activities that increase temperature (or would increase temperature if there isn't anything preventing it from happening such as a Happy Hour). Each action that normally generates n15% temperature has approximately n150 chance to yield a random item. This chance is increased to approximately n100 during Happy Hours. Clawdia also has a chance to drop any of these in addition to her unique drops.[2]

Cocktails and consumables[edit | edit source]

  1. ^ Only one can be owned at a time.

The following titles from The Beach events from previous years are available to be gained through various activities in the event area. Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • There is some unnamed fish and scenery in the pool in the middle of the crater, including a skeleton whose leg is seemingly stuck in a brick, possibly implying the person was drowned. The skeleton is an on-going easter egg added in by Mod Alex to hide skeletons in their work.[3]
