The Inquisitor staff is a tier 80 staff. It requires level 80 Magic to wield. The components are obtained from Archaeology, requiring a minimum level of 114 (boostable) in order to be created due to the praetorian staff's requirement. However, the staff is tradeable and may be purchased from the Grand Exchange or other players. It can be used without the Archaeology requirement needed to obtain components. It also requires a Runecrafting level of 93 (boostable) to be assembled.

The staff can be augmented using an augmentor, creating the augmented Inquisitor staff. This weapon is the magic equivalent of the terrasaur maul and the hexhunter bow.

The Inquisitor staff gives no boost against other players in PvP situations.

This item degrades to a broken, repairable state over 60,000 charges of combat. The base repair cost is 2,000,000 coins for a full repair, which is scaled to how damaged it is. It can be repaired by a character capable of repairing equipment, or for less on an armour stand or whetstone.

The staff was used by the Inquisitors, a subsect of the Zarosian Secret Police.

Upgrades[edit | edit source]

The damage-boosting effect of the Inquisitor staff can be permanently upgraded by 5% (from +12.5% to +17.5% damage) by imbuing the enchantment of affliction.

Passive effect[edit | edit source]

The staff has a passive effect called Dark Wither that provides bonuses when used against melee classed enemies or targets that have a weakness to the selected spell type:

  • +12.5% damage boost against melee-classed enemies.
  • +10% hit chance boost against melee-classed enemies.
  • +5 affinity buff on targets that have a weakness to the appropriately selected elemental spell (air, earth, fire, or water). This buff is independent from the other two passive effects.[1]

Although spell damage is capped at level 80 due to the staff's tier, the passive effect greatly increases the effective accuracy and damage to levels surpassing most other staves in the game. This means that even when using the Inquisitor staff on melee-classed enemies, spells that scale past level 80 won't deal any more damage than spells capped at level 80 damage. This interaction greatly increases the damage of spells that are normally much weaker, such as Blood Burst (which scales up to level 79 damage) dealing almost identical damage to Blood Barrage (which is restricted to level 80 damage due to the staff's tier).

Recommended bosses[edit | edit source]

The Inquisitor staff affects the following boss fights. Due to its boost against melee-classed bosses, it performs with about tier 97 damage, but can have as low as tier 94 damage if it is not used alongside other boosts such as potions, prayers, damage boosting auras, and power armour.[n 1] If the +5 affinity boost does not come into play, for the majority of places where accuracy matters, the Inquisitor staff's effective accuracy tier ranges between tier 89 and tier 92.

Slayer monsters[edit | edit source]

The following creatures and bosses are melee in nature, and thus are affected by the Inquisitor staff's boosts. Please note that this list is incomplete. For a complete list see Susceptible to inquisitor staff.

Damage analysis[edit | edit source]

The Inquisitor staff provides a significant damage and accuracy boost against the following bosses, even when compared to a T92 staff of Sliske or a T90 noxious staff weapon.

The Inquisitor staff is 3.5% stronger than the staff of Sliske against melee-classed bosses, regardless of rotation.

The following table provides detailed analysis of the DPM (damage per minute) and hitchance increase when using the Inquisitor staff compared to T92 and T90 staves.[2]

Notes

Additional Assumptions based on a variety of boss specific rotations were used for the above calculations:

  1. T92 weapons increase average damage output by 28 over T90 weapons, which results in a ~1.3% damage gain over a rotation, the 118 accuracy gain is reflected in hitchances above
  2. ~50% of damage in a typical 4TAA rotation can be done with your 2H weapon, so in the table above, "Inquisitor 4TAA" means that 50% of the damage will come from the Inquisitor staff, and the other 50% will come from your dual-wield T92 weapon.
  3. T92 vs T90 vary by approximately the same percentages regardless of rotation so dual-wield/2-handed doesn't matter
  4. Guthix staff and SWH hitchances are shown with the initial defence drain (-5% and -30%, respectively) that is applied for bosses not immune to drains

Inquisitor staff pieces are only obtained while excavating spots in the Kharid-et Dig Site; the rates below are based on success of gathering materials.

In addition, a single Inquisitor staff piece is awarded when completing the Zarosian IV collection for the first time, which requires Archaeology level 118 (can be boosted).

The staff pieces are not dropped in order; they are dropped randomly. However, Soran will swap staff pieces for other pieces of the player's choosing for a price of 10,000,000 coins per exchange.

Repair[edit | edit source]

The Inquisitor staff has 60,000 charges of combat. This item costs at most 2,000,000 coins to repair completely. The repair cost is calculated by the degradation percentage rounded down (e.g. with 75.5% charge remaining, a full repair would only cost 500,000 coins). It may be repaired through a variety of methods.

Non-player characters[edit source]

These methods cost more as they do not consider the player's Smithing level for a repair discount.

Improved methods[edit source]

These methods provide a repair cost discount of 0.5% per Smithing level (including boosts):

Notes[edit | edit source]

  1. ^ Tier 97 is an estimate as this changes based on various buffs and other worn equipment. The 12.5% damage boost is a multiplier that is applied to the player's base ability damage. For example if, you're 99 magic without any armour bonus or potion boosts, then: Damage=3.75(99)+min(14.4(80),1788)+1.5(0), thus: Damage=(1523)×1.125 where 1.125 is the Inquisitor staff buff which results in an effective base ability damage of 1713.
