A Cave slime is a poisonous Slayer monster found in the Lumbridge Swamp Caves and the Dorgesh-Kaan South Dungeons. They require level 17 slayer to kill. They are notable for dropping considerable amounts of swamp tar, which can be sold for 288 coins each, and they can also drop easy clue scrolls; this makes them fairly good low level Slayer creatures to kill for money. A slightly stronger, but non-poisonous version of these monsters appears in all floors of Daemonheim.

Locations[edit | edit source]

Strategy[edit | edit source]

They can poison players with their ranged attack (about 25-49 damage per hit, once every few seconds, over 3 minutes), which can be negated by various means, or simply healed with food. Antipoison is an affordable option for low level players, which their swamp tar and other drops could easily pay for. Since they need to deal damage with an attack to inflict poison, melee armour helps reducing the frequency.

Both Dorgesh-Kaan South Dungeon and Lumbridge Swamp Caves are dark areas requiring light sources. The latter additionally have swamp gas zones that a lit candle, lit torch or lit oil lamp can ignite, causing an explosion and dealing damage; advanced light sources like Seer's headband or mining helmet don't have this problem.

Drops[edit | edit source]

Drop rates estimated based on 3,784 samples from the Drop Log Project, unless otherwise cited.

The average Cave slime kill is worth 1,242 coins.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Previously, equipping an anti-poison totem would not prevent Cave slimes and certain other poisonous monsters from causing poison. On 15 June 2010, Jagex implemented a fix that addressed the issue. However, during the fix, cave slimes were overlooked, and could still cause poison even if the player was holding the anti-poison totem. As of 21 September 2010, this glitch has been fixed (the exact date of the fix is unknown, and most likely occurred in a hidden update).
  • Despite being poisonous, cave slime can apparently be safely eaten as green gloop soup, part of Dorgeshuun cuisine.
