The Mask of Stench is a slayer mask obtained from the Shattered Worlds reward shop for 6 million anima. It is associated with the aberrant spectre slayer monster. It gives two free teleports to the monster per day, acts as a nose peg for safely killing aberrant spectres, as well as giving extra Slayer experience while on a Slayer task of this monster and double drops on every tenth kill. The extra experience and drops are lost when the mask reaches a certain kill count, at which point it can be transformed into a helm.

This mask does not function as a face mask. If slaying in the Pollnivneach dungeon, the player will have to use the mask's teleport or wear different headgear until they reach the spectre's area.

After 700 Aberrant spectre kills it will turn into a Helm of Foulness.

Benefits[edit | edit source]

The teleport
Force Slayer task When the mask or helm variant is worn: One task per day at: Chaeldar, Sumona, Duradel/Lapalok, or Kuradal.
  • Attempting to force a task with the mask or helm at a Slayer Master that does not assign the creature, will instead be directed to a Slayer Master that can assign them.
  • The mask or helm warns players if the creature is on their block list before accepting.
  • The activation chance of the Slayer master cape perk if triggered, takes priority over the mask or helm, preserving their ability to force a slayer task.
  • The mask or helm will not work if the Slayer Master is in the process of setting up a Co-op Slayer assignment.
  • The cool down period of this ability may be checked via the "Check Kills" option on the item's right click menu.
Daily teleports Two free daily teleports to:
  • Outside Morytania Slayer Tower next to Markus
  • Inside Morytania Slayer Tower near the aberrant spectres on the 1st floor[UK]2nd floor[US]
  • Inside Pollnivneach dungeon south-east of the aberrant spectres and north of the basilisks (must wear the mask or helm variant, or other protective facemask)
Slayer task stat boost Until helm is unlocked and mask is worn: grants the player 12.5% damage and accuracy if the player is on the Slayer assignment for the corresponding monster. It will override the damage and accuracy granted by the slayer helmet that is placed on the slayer helmet stand, even if the one on the helmet stand is better.
Additional Slayer XP Until helm is unlocked and mask is worn: Grants additional Slayer XP equivalent to the Slayer level required to fight them. This is given regardless of the current assignment the player has and in addition to assignment and/or contract XP. The XP awarded by the mask can be boosted by items.
Enhanced drops Until helm is unlocked and mask is worn: Grants double drops in accordance with the base amount received for every 10th kill, including charm drops and its champion's scroll.
Kill count When mask or helm is worn: Tallies every creature killed. Each mask has a set amount of kills assigned to it that, once reached, the mask turns into its helm variant, ending the additional Slayer XP and double drops effects. The kill count continues to be tracked beyond this point, up to 1,048,575 on the item's tooltip. However, only up to 999,999 can be displayed to others with the "check kills" option.
Check kills A right-click option outputs total kills of that creature. If the helm has yet to be unlocked, there’s also a message to say how many more kills are needed to do so.
Change look After the helm version has been unlocked, the player is free to switch between it and the mask version - this change is a cosmetic effect – this does not restore the additional Slayer XP and double drop effects to the mask.
Slayer item When the mask or helm variant is worn: Protects the player against the aberrant spectre's stench and from the smoke in the Pollnivneach Slayer Dungeon but does not count as a face mask.
Emote After the helm version has been unlocked, a right-click option is added to the helm while equipped that activates an emote in which the player is transformed into the corresponding creature for a few seconds.

At any point, the kill count can be reset to 0 by using a Spirit of Battle on a mask or helm. This will restore the Slayer XP and drop modifier effects if the helm was previously unlocked, and disable the ability to emote or swap to the helm cosmetic until the required kill count to unlock them is reached again.
