The fate of Hulu's hit drama series, Tell Me Lies, starring Grace Van Patten and Jackson White, remains in limbo following the massive success of its second season.
Despite the show steadily remaining in the streamer's Top 15 series since its release, a show insider told DailyMail.com that 'sadly the cast are all still waiting for season three to get the green light.'
'It’s usually around this time that they would find out – but time is running out before the holidays,' the insider said.'All the cast are excited and want to return of course, but showrunners are still fine-tuning ideas for the next series.'
They continued: 'It would be shocking to the cast if it didn’t get picked up for a third season but right now it is just a waiting game. Other cast members feel like they will be expecting a call any day now.'
The insider noted that any further delay 'could mean that fans will be left waiting over a year before they see Lucy and her friends again.'
Since the series' season two finale aired in October, viewers have taken to social media pleading for a third season following its jaw-dropping cliffhanger.

One fan took to X to ask: 'If season one of Tell Me Lies was in 2022 and season two is 2024 does that mean we have to wait two years for season three?'
Another more bluntly tweeted: 'Hey Hulu when the F**K are you gonna make Tell Me Lies season three.'
'I need tell me lies season three right now,' a third wrote.
After watching its finale, one viewer tweeted: 'Boy was the ending a huge waiting suspense [sobbing emoji] I need season three to come out ASAP.'
Others jokingly threatened violence or to let out an 'actual scream' if the show does not get renewed.
DailyMail.com has reached out to Hulu, but has not heard back.
At this time, the streamer has not renewed Tell Me Lies for a third season.
Previously Hulu announced Tell Me Lies had been renewed for a second season just one month after the first season wrapped.

If they plan on following a similar timeline, fans should expect to hear about its renewal any day as the season three finale wrapped on October 16, 2024.
Although little is known about what direction season three could take, the series creator Meaghan Oppenheimer teased that Tom Ellis, who plays Oliver, a Baird College professor, would most likely not be returning.
'I think Tom was just wanting to do one season. I think that we wrapped up his storyline in a way that really worked for me. I don’t know where else we would go after that with him,' she told Variety.
Oppenheimer continued: 'I think we could bring Marianne back, maybe. There’s a lot more story to tell with her. But I think we kind of learned that Oliver is so broken and hollow by the end of this season that I’m ready for Bree to be done with him.'
The series - which was first released on Hulu in September 2022 - follows the toxic relationship between freshman Lucy (played by Grace L) and Stephen (Jackson R)
'One of the main reasons that I wanted to do the show in the first place is to debunk this myth that only weak or stupid women get tricked by narcissists and bad people,' she noted. 'That only silly women get run over by love. It happens to the strongest of us. Some of the most incredible women I know, their one weak spot is a man or relationships. There’s something so vulnerable about that.'
While speaking about leaving season two on a cliffhanger to THR, the television screenwriter said she 'always' likes to 'leave people guessing.'
'I’m always trying to surprise people,' she teased.
Oppenheimer was most likely referring to the the scene, in which Stephen sends Bree a voicemail on her wedding day that reveals Evan, her husband-to-be, had sex with Lucy.
Oppenheimer explained that the idea for the 'wild cliffhanger' came after season one.
Tell Me Lies season one premiered on the streamer in September 2022, while the second season debuted September 2024
'I definitely knew that he was going to record Evan saying this thing. Initially, I didn’t think he was going to play it at the end of the finale. I rewrote the ending of the finale very quickly, very last minute. I was on set at [Video] Village and I rewrote it, because initially it was going to be more of a cliffhanger of: Is he going to tell Bree or not at the wedding? And then I decided he’s just gotta tell her; we just have to have that blow up,' she said.
Oppenheimer continued: 'The long-con is interesting, but I have a lot of Scorpios in my life and I think that there are people who definitely go in it for the long-con, and Stephen is one of them. I mean, my God, he holds a grudge.'
When asked if viewers should expect to see the ramifications of Evan's confession in season three, Oppenheimer said: 'I think we need to see that. Poor Bree. That’s like the hashtag of the season in my mind, #PoorBree. She’s just been through it. I think she deserves some sort of reaction to this massive betrayal from everyone.'
As for whether fans should expect a season three, she said she didn't know.
'I think the show has had a really wonderful response this season, so I’m very hopeful about a season three,' she stated. 'I always like to leave people guessing. And I also think some of my favorite shows, even when they end, leave things not completely resolved. I don’t hate those stories that have open endings. So I was sort of of the mind of, let’s have a cliffhanger so that people want to come back and, if we don’t get to answer it, then that’s life.'
