Late night with Mohammed Rafi

Late night with Mohammed Rafi

Date: 2014-02-14
Polart Productions presents a short season of after-supper music - Late night with Mohammed Rafi - at the Catalina Theatre on Wilson's Wharf from Monday 17 February until Friday 21 February.

Durban pretty much shuts down after 9pm except for weekends when the only place one can be entertained after 10pm is a nightclub. With this in mind, Catalina general manager, Francis Doherty-Bigara has decided to introduce late night theatre: a concept that sees artists bringing more light work to the fore. He is looking at comedy and musical reviews with talk shows and games all starting slightly later than usual, allowing patrons to enjoy a leisurely supper before coming to the theatre.

Polart productions, which has a line-up of work to be staged at the Catalina Theatre for this year, is keen to take up the challenge of venturing into this unknown space of Late Night Theatre. So, Late Night with Mohammed Rafi is born. The idea behind this show is to review the musical genius of this vocal maestro by taking the audience on a journey through his songs and documenting his history in music whilst adding lots of local flavour. Mehfil-E-Rafi is the atmosphere that they are looking to create; an environment where people come together with a common interest. So there will be a lot of audience interaction and participation.

Mohammed Rafi (24 December 1924 - 31 July 1980) was an Indian recording artist who is considered by many to be one of the greatest Indian playback singers of the Hindi film industry.

The cast include Vee Gani, Pranesh Maharaj, Veerden Punwasi, Tansen Nepaul and Anesh Dusrath. Even if you are not a "Rafian" you will be delighted with the energy of this show. The Show will run for two hours from 9pm until 11pm.

Late night with Mohammed Rafi runs at the Catalina Theatre on Wilson's Wharf from 17 February (Monday) until 21 February (Friday). Tickets are available at Computicket for R100 each and seating is reserved.
