Guided walk: Interesting Trees of the Durban Botanic Gardens

Guided walk: Interesting Trees of the Durban Botanic Gardens

Date: 2019-11-08

On Saturday 9th November (reserve date if rain: Saturday, 30 November) at09h30 Dr Hugh Glen will amaze with his knowledge and amuse with his anecdotes.

Hugh will show us a few of his favourite trees, many of which have amazing stories attached. Foodies will enjoy seeing some of their much-loved ingredients live, such as cinnamon, chocolate and the colour used in cheddar cheese. Hugh will show a tree that makes us think of steam trains, another that links (by a sort of "six degrees of separation") Victorian furniture, buying a goat for supper in Yemen, and Beethoven. He considers the sad story of the world's loneliest tree, as well as an elderly lala palm, and one that inspired a previous group to sing old advertising jingles from Springbok Radio. Who ever said trees weren't well connected

Entrance: R50 p.p. towards Hugh's daughter Melissa Glen's medical costs. Booking essential to the BotSoc Branch Office: Email: [email protected] Tel: 031 2015111 / cell: 071 8693693.
