Go-ing Places

Go-ing Places

In Cape Town on a somewhat extended stay I needed to rent a car, CMH's First Car rental has the friendliest smiley-faced assistant who made collecting my rental a breeze.

I arrived at my car, a brand new Datsun GO, and I could see the newly designed body styling was going to be well received.

I immediately recognised that Datsun had gone the extra mile in bringing the new GO up to speed, a trendy 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which becomes an extension of your smartphone through Android Auto and Apple Car Play was the first feature to catch my eye. Great, I had my own music, messages and maps and I did not have to look down at my phone while driving, excellent. There was also a USB and AUX cable as well as Bluetooth connectivity.

The dual airbags and ABS brakes added to my confidence and I settled into the comfortable driver's seat and headed towards the mountain. The speed-sensitive electric power steering added to the confident handling the new GO offered and I was very quickly at the speed limit on the highway.

Powered by a lively 1.2 litre petrol engine that delivers 50 kilowatts and a rather pleasing exhaust sound, I was impressed to learn that the new GO delivers 104 Newton metres of torque. The five speed manual gearbox changed with smooth precision and I have since learnt that the fuel consumption figures are as low as 5.2 litres per 100km.

The new Datsun GO has come a long way and now offers an array of features including electric side mirrors, reverse parking sensors, intermittent windscreen wipers, central locking and an immobiliser.

With a 3-year/100,000km warranty and an optional service plan, as well as a year's free insurance, you really should call Datsun Ballito and book a test drive. You will be pleasantly surprised like I was.

Call them on 032 - 946 5820 or visit them at their showroom at 6 Moffat Drive, Ballito and GO!
