Through My Eyes

Through My Eyes

Everyday seems like we are getting closer and closer to some form of normality and with each day our lives are slowly returning to something that resembles what we knew as 'normal'.

And yet nothing is as it was. People are still dying. Businesses are shutting down and people are slowly loosing hope. Our mental health is at its lowest and it seems that only the fittest will make it through to the other side.

As a collective, it is our duty to support one another, no matter what. As a nation we have to stand together and vote for people who have our best interests at heart and are able to lead us out of this chaos.

We have a long way to go before we can be delivered from the shackles of this pandemic. It's not going to be an easy ride. But if we have the right leaders steering and guiding us, we have a fighting chance of winning the battle.

It's an incredible time to be alive and while it seems hard now, it will soon be easier, its just a matter of time and a test to just how flexible we can be to jump through the hoops that are waiting for us on the other side of this.

Recovery is a process. It's a simple practice one step in front of the other. One day at a time. Once we adjust our expectations and adapt to the new challenges we are facing, things will start falling into place.

Discipline is a key in any transformation. Showing up. Keeping your word. Being on time. For most re-entering life, post the pandemic, is completely overwhelming but believe me, it becomes easier as we venture out and own our right to a normal life.

The skill of being able to focus purposefully on a single activity without distraction will get stronger with practice and you'll find that you can apply it to many different aspects of your life.

Here is a great piece of advice from one of my favourite people, Anthony Bourdain, celebrity chef, author, and travel documentarian who took his own life three years ago, he wrote; "Give the people you work with or deal with or have relationships with the respect to show up at the time you said you were going to. And by that I mean, every day, always and forever. Always be on time. It is a simple demonstration of discipline, good work habits, and most importantly respect for other people. As an employee, it was a hugely important expression of respect, and as an employer, I quickly came to understand that there are two types of people in this world: There are the type of people who are going to live up to what they said they were going to do yesterday, and then there are people who are full of shit. And that's all you really need to know. If you can't be bothered to show up, why should anybody show up? It's just the end of the fucking world."
