All social media works off the same premisethey are social and interactive platforms which encourage members to join and interact with each other. How they differ is purely down to how they set about trying to achieve this.

Facebook is very much focused on gathering a community of friends who are interested in your personal life. These include updates on photos, statuses, wall posts and the like excuse the pun. Businesses set up profiles for customers to engage with their brands and give feedback. Twitter is more real time and limited to 140 characters. Some "tweeters" send tweets over 10 times a dayan understood element associated with Twitter but frowned upon within the Facebook community. Pinterest, on the other hand, is extremely visual. Participants pin interesting images on their pre-named boards and are able to build a following of friends or clients.

So, when it comes to business, it truly depends heavily on your offering as to what platform will work best for you. Social media is a full time job and rather than spreading your attention, focus on the ones that work best for your business. It is a key part of many marketing strategies and fast changing so choose a partner wisely.
